Cecaelia

Cecaelia are octopus-like humanoids that live in the dark depths of the oceans where they commonly make their homes in underwater caves. They are rarely seen above the surface.   Cecaelia are a single sex species with a strong affinity for magic and can be commonly found practising the arcane arts. While Cecaelia are usually solitary people, those of whom are well versed in magic have been seen to form three member covens with other Cecaelia. These covens are known to perform dark rituals for their Patron Goddess Ceto. This connection to dark magics commonly put them at odds with nearby Merfolk settlements, a favoured food of the Cecaelia.   The history of the Cecaelias origin is all but unknown to scholars of the surface world, with some believing that the Cecaelia are a subspecies of Merfolk. Cecaelias are in fact a species of cephalopods, with most Merfolk scholars attributing the species’ origins to the Goddess Ceto, claiming them to be descendants of the Goddess’ spawn.

Appearance:

Cecaelia commonly appear as feminine humanoids with eight octopus-like tentacles instead of legs which they use to propel themselves through the ocean. Cecaelia are also bioluminescent with soft, slimy skin and silky hair.   Complexion: Cecaelia skin tones range from reds, greens and purples, speckled with bioluminescent streaks and spots.   Hair: Cecaelia hair ranges from black or reds to green or pink.   Eyes: Cecaelia tend to have either black or purple coloured eyes.

Maturity:

Cecaelia mature much faster than Humans, reaching adulthood around the age of 10.

Reproduction:

Cecaelia hatch from eggs. Cecaelia reproduce asexually, laying a single clutch of 3 eggs near the end of their lives. These eggs must be kept warm for 6 to 7 months before they hatch. Once the eggs hatch the parent dies and the young feast on their remains.
