High Conjurant of Preservation

High Conjurant of Preservation Meralis Arvoth

"Magic is not invention. It is inheritance. And we are its memory."
— Meralis Arvoth

Meralis Arvoth serves as the High Conjurant of Preservation, one of the three voices within the Triumvirate that governs arcane doctrine in the Imperium. She is the oldest of the current Conjurants, both in age and tenure, and is regarded as the soul of continuity within the Arcanii. Her voice carries the weight of forgotten rites, ancestral memories, and the will to keep what must not be lost.

Appearance

Meralis is slight, grey-robed, and always veiled — not for secrecy, but reverence. Her presence is soft and slow-burning, like coals beneath sacred ash. Her eyes, when seen, are described as colorless yet deep, as if hollowed by visions of the past.

She wears ritual robes of bark-dyed linen, stitched with preserved feathers and threads of elder glyphs no longer taught. Her Doctrine Flame is unusually steady, never flickering, even in storm or silence.

Personality

Quiet, deliberate, and uncannily patient. Meralis is deeply empathetic to the past and suspicious of novelty. Her speech is lyrical but never flowery — each word chosen like a spell component.

She is often mistaken for cold, though those close to her know she feels deeply. Emotion, to Meralis, is sacred when disciplined.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born in the mountain hamlet of Vellanost in 232 AR, Meralis was a sickly child said to murmur in extinct dialects during fevers. Recognized early by Arcanii pilgrims, she was taken to Nova Roma for training. Her memories seemed attuned to forgotten structures — she could recite ancient spells no longer taught and name spirits from pre-Imperial rites.

Education

Trained at the Scholae Arcanii in Nova Roma, Meralis excelled not in power but in recollection and doctrinal mapping. She was mentored by Lexmagus Talarith Evos and served an extended Initiate term cataloging folk rituals in the outer provinces.

She later returned to Nova Roma to complete her Oath of Containment, her thesis on The Memory of the Flame earning formal citation by the Codex Tribunal.

Employment

She served as a Lexmaga for over four decades, presiding over trials concerning forgotten rites and rural magical transgressions. Her conservatism was well known, yet she often argued not from dogma but from reverence — insisting that change without memory was theft.

Her elevation to High Conjurant came after the Sudden Veil Crisis, when her counter-thesis prevented a doctrinal catastrophe. She was confirmed by unanimous Tribunal vote.

Accomplishments & Achievements

  • Opposed the expansion of Sigil-Weaving, citing untested ancestral conflict.
  • Authored the preservation clause that saved the Rite of the Bonewake from obliteration.
  • Cast the lone dissenting vote during the Runefire Inquest, now studied in doctrinal ethics.
  • Sole recorder of the Smoke-Pact Variant retrieved from the Banewood.

Personality Characteristics

Representation & Legacy

To her followers, Meralis is the heart of Arcanii memory. To her critics, she is a necessary delay. Regardless, no one doubts the depth of her wisdom or the power of her silence.
