These organisms are closely related to Sakätare, but their cells possess a cell wall similar to the Solätare. They do not, however, have access to chlorophyll and must digest organic matter. But, to avoid competing with Sakätare, they specialize in breaking down dead or decaying matter. They also help sustain ecosystems by releasing a portion of what they eat to the environment.
