Firearms

Firearms have been made possible in the world of Eventide thanks to the discovery of Orlentrine. These firearms have two applications; firing out blasts of scorching flame / expelling high velocity bullets, or casting the fire elemental from the crystal.   Firing blasts of flame has been shown to damage the elemental trapped within the crystal, and each crystal can only withstand ten blasts within a pistol. Once an elemental has been diminished completely, the crystal becomes nothing more than a shiny, mostly transparent, Fotiàtrine crystal.   Alternatively, there is the ability to cast the elemental out of the crystal. In this event, the elemental will attack its closest target, then moving to the next after it is slain. If the firearm is used to fire off blasts before sending out the elemental, the elemental shows signs of injury from the blasts.   Due to how new of a technology these weapons are, they are quite volatile and unpredictable. If modified from its base construction, firearms can misfire or even explode in extreme cases, needing to be largely rebuilt before prepared for combat once more.

Utility

Firearms can be used to shoot a blast of flame toward the wielder's enemies, or to cast the fire elemental out from its crystal, usually proving to make it attack the closest target. The farthest recorded blast was fired by "The Drifter"--a highly experienced tinkerer and firearm wielder--up to 3,280 feet with his modified Orlentrine Far-Reach rifle, before fizzling out past this range. Most commonly, the predominant modelled firearms are used within a range of up to 120 feet, with close range "Pyre" firearms being used in a range of a 15 foot cone, spewing flame rather than a projectile.   These firearms are able to fire up to ten blasts of flame before the Orlentrinebecomes fully discharged, depending on the model. For example, the Pyre can only fire its blast 5 times due to the way it is built.
