The Bay of Graves

Haunted waters

This article is a stub. Please comment if you would like it to become a priority for expansion.
The Bay of Graves is a part of the Southern Ocean, located off the southern coast of the country of Dryst. It has a reputation of treacherous waters, of hidden rocks and unexpected shallows. Common lore says that the bay is named for the shipwrecks that lie on the seabed, though in truth there are not as many shipwrecks under the waves as the stories lead one to believe. Many believe the bay to be haunted, and the majority of Drystian sailors refuse to sail it at night.   The name of the bay is actually a Drystian translation of the originalNoemi name, Kanamsi En. The Noemi shapeshifters have lived along Dryst's southern coast for thousands of years, and have the tradition of burying their dead at sea. They wrap the deceased tightly in a specialised embroidered shroud, known as the Bembi, that has rocks sewn into it. The body is then taken out to sea and let go, sinking to the seabed and finding their forever rest there.

Love a good ghost story, with a center of truth to work from.

I like the burial ceremony, but I understand why sailors don't want to sail there at night. I wouldn't want to go to the cemetery at night either.

Summer Camp is back! Rippling waves lead you to my answers of this year's prompts.

Thank you! Me neither, even if I logically know it is probably fine XD

Ooh, interesting. Have the buried dead there led to the stories of shipwrecks?

There are definitely some legends of shipwrecks in the area. :)
