Deřek tor Krahn Tor Wiskonia
Deřek tor Krahn is one of the Board members operating the Prism Nexus. They are amongst the most senior members, having been part of the Prism Nexus for nearly a century.
The Aen started as a volunteer themselves when the Prism Nexus was still calling the planet Wiskonia home. From those early days, Deřek started running a stream to showcase the animals and their behaviors which snowballed into a following of millions, then billions.
Over the course of these multiple decades, Deřek gained knowledge and experience that can only be gained by taking care of hundreds of animals at once. From the most mundane task of cleaning enclosures, to providing life-saving care when they were sick. He has served as a public face of education and outreach for creatures that sophontic life shares the galaxy with.
The trials and tribulations of such a life wound up unlocking his Monolithic status. He is a master at showmanship, and at times can communicate with the animals using his Monolithic ability.
Despite the amount of never-ending work to be done, Deřek still runs his streaming show while taking care of the space station he is now calling his home, along with the other hundreds of residents.
At the end of the day, I'm here for the animals. If you show that you are here for the animals too, then we will get along dandy.
From Cheese Farmer to King of the Beasts
Deřek was born as the sixth son of a multi-generational Cheese Corralum farming family. He found his calling on the farm early. Deřek noted being at his happiest when working with the farm's animals, both livestock and Corralum-tending Rutas.
That passion turned into full-time employment as helping turned into internship. Deřek honed his veterinary skills. Through his gainful employment, he also learned more about how the family farm operated under the umbrella of Victory Corp through a chain of corporations three layers deep.
Years of working under Victory Corp broke Deřek's passion for the Cheese farming life, and he began the search for something new.
He spends some of his free time training his martial arts skills, seeing it as a productive way to stay in shape.
Deřek enjoys the occasional escape into the virtual worlds. He particularly loves the player versus player "Multiverse Melee."
Animation
Despite a rather crude style, Deřek's work in by-hand animation has led to many lines of merch and viral attention for the Prism Nexus.
I always learned not to be a picky eater, but there's a couple dishes that I'll jump at more than others.
Personally, I love a good Rutas and Mushroom Chowder.
Wanderlust and a desire for more compelled Deřek to seek opporunties across the planet. It was during this search that he learned of a small animal rescue facility simply called the Wiskonia Sanctuary. This place served as a rescue for animals confiscated within the Syndicate. Deřek continued his work for the Farm for several years, and volunteered with Wiskonia Rescue. Soon, his passion led him to transfer to working full time at the Rescue.
The large acreage of the facility and natural barriers allowed the care of some more dangerous animals. Including several Tonagra packs and Laughing Nights.
Working with the animals expanded his veterinarian experience, but he also took on the role of outreach, which he accomplished by combining his eclectic and vibrant personality with the animals of the facility. His cast entertained and educated listeners, within a couple years, millions were tuning in to learn about the different rescued animals and the personalities who took care of them on a day to day basis.
One of the darkest times of Deřek's life was when their corporate umbrella Victory Corp cut their funding and attempted to absorb their facilities.
With the help of the staff, and the Volunteers he reached across the galaxy and received aid from many unlikely sources. Followers from not just the Syndicate, but other banners like the Pact, Federation, and Haimarchy chipped in to help find Deřek and the animals a new home.
With the funds collected from supporters, and lots of investment of time, the facility found a new home on the newly repurposed station. Wiskonia Rescue rebranded to reflect their new home and status. The Rainbow Bridge Station was born.
This new facility allowed the rescue of even more species, including several strains of rescued Sazakraht, including Kytherian Sazakraht and even a surrendered Synthisaurus Rex.
Achievements
Deřek achieved monolithic status during the transition from Wiskonia to the Rainbow Bridge Station. The day was notable for being completely filled with loading a hundred creatures big and small into transport pens.
When an animal decides it doesn't want to load up, it can feel impossible to change their mind.
On that day, I had to spend every minute convincing the animals to willingly get in their pens. Not an easy feat, but it finally woke up that spark inside me.
Knew I was in the right field then...
These creatures are the fiercest predators out there, and the logistics of keeping one happy and secure? It's an insane task.
Thankfully I am well and truly insane.
Deřek is one of the only people capable of caring for not just one, but several rescued Sazakraht. These dangerous creatures can grow to the size of a minivan, and have thumbs and grips capable of bending steel.
Caring for them is a major portion of Deřek's day-to-day work. It was an effort he had to tackle alone, as keeping the Sazakraht calm and happy was something that no one else could pull off.
Robert Kiska was the first Volunteer to arrive who could assist him in the daunting task.
I like this a lot, we love ourselves a naturalist and this thus far reads almost exactly like what I'd expect such a figure in Ethnis to be like. Put a smile on my face, I can't help it, I grew up with the likes of Steve Irwin, I just love wildlife even the stuff that could absolutely body me, I still would give them nose boops if I could survive the experience, though since I can't I honor the rules he taught and leave em alone and admire from distance the rare times I've gotten to see some in person. So absolutely this gets tucked in the collection, can't wait to see if there is more to come, however even this warms a little spot in my heart and brought a smile to my face.
Awww same, this is my little love letter to a Animal Rescue that I volunteer a couple weeks a year at called CARE in Texas. One thing I realized is that Ethnis has so many animals, so who would rescue them from illegal trades/captivity but a giant animal rescue facility! Expect more!
