Robert Kiska (a.k.a. Psovod)
Excerpt from Kytherian Mechanisms
"Let's do this." Psovod muttered, stepping behind Rhossa into the lobby. A passing smile, hungry like a predator, is cast to the greeter. He tugged his large-bore rifle off his back along with the scabbard, placing both into a cubical. With formalities aside, he pushed his way into the courtyard.
His brain chugged, catching up with the amount of sensory overload reported from his eyes, nose, and ears. "I didn't even know you could get six of those..." he muttered to his party. Of whom he spoke of, many could fit the description.
Psovod could sense that his Sazakraht, Dravec, needed a pep-talk, this had to be a mind-expanding experience and he wanted it done right. He turned to face his Sazakraht pack-mate, grabbing his attention and giving him a solid staredown.
"Alright Dravec, let's make something clear. We are a pack, you and I. Look around us. All these things for us to try." He licked his lips, looking over Dravec to the dozens upon dozens of carnal attractions appealing to every sin.
"We do it together, Dravec! This whole place is our hunting ground tonight! You and I are going to feast on the finest booze, meats, and whatever else your uplifted mind could even conceive!" His speech ended, a fanged grin plastered across his scarred visage. "How's that sound?" He queried the Sazakraht.
History
Childhood and Young Adulthood
Born to a family of Syndicate animal trainers, Robert Kiska was raised alongside pups and cubs. The companionship of the animals led him to a rougher childhood, he got along with dogs more than he did his peers.
A number of physical altercations between his teachers and students lead to his expulsion from the school system. His calling was different than what his parents wanted of him, and so he left at the age of sixteen to travel and find his own path.
He settled in the hubspace of the Jupiter Syndicate. His physical strength and talent with animals landed him a role as Police Corporal with the JS Travel and Customs.
He served for several years, climbing up the ranks to Sergeant of the force. He trained others in the use of animals in the force, earning him the nickname ‘Psovod’, the Slovak term for ‘Handler.’ His close connection with the animals of the force made him a figurehead of the departments social networking pages. Many a picture of Psovod in action with canines caught the hearts of the Syndicate Citizens that he served.
First Encounter with Ambrose Dax
A notorious smuggling ring had been sweeping through the customs station. Uniforms had been killed, perps had escaped. It became personal when a particular smuggler put a canine he had raised in the dirt. So when a Ambrose Dax approached him with leads and names, Psovod went above the book in a vendetta. The chain of smugglers fell one by one in a bloody hunt akin to Wyatt Earp’s hunt of the Cowboys.
At the end of the hunt, they found with him a plethora of smuggled goods in one of the largest busts that have ever occurred in Syndicate Space. Amongst the stolen property, a cub Sazakraht, and Ambrose’ stolen Baton.
Dravec and the Archive
The Sazakraht Cub caught Psovod’s attention, the poor creature looked malnourished and sported scars on its head. Everything was moved to evidence besides the Sazakraht, who was moved to an industrial kennel pending euthanasia.
His curiosity of this little beast got to him, and he stayed with the Sazakraht nightly. It awoke one of these nights in his visit, and much to Psovod’s surprise asked weakly for help. An uplifted and speaking Sazakraht? Psovod could not resist.
How he was going to take the Sazakraht into his care was going to be another affair, and Psovod was more than ready to throw his career away for this chance.
The next night, a mysterious caller arrived at his door. He identified with the Archives, and complimented Psovod on his knack for finding illegal goods. He offered a job to Psovod; work for the Archives, venture the universe in a quest to collect all mannerisms of dangerous and exotic goods. Psovod was intrigued, and in many ways had pressure to leave the force. Not only had the hunt with Ambrose exposed him to another world of thrills, but his reputation was under attack by rights activists for his publicly bloody and borderline illegal pursuit of these smugglers.
Just the adventure and investigation was not enough for Psovod to break his roots. He asked the Archive if they could release the Sazakraht to him for safe keeping and training. They agreed and Psovod publicly resigned from the force. The uplifted Sazakraht was released to his care a day afterward. Psovod dubbed his new friend ‘Dravec,’ Slovak for ‘Predator.’ Dravec, in his youth, was more than happy with the intimidating name and new found freedom.
Move to Sig 5
Taking care of a Sazakraht was not going to be a small feat, nor was it going to be a very legal one. The Archives sent him to a world where laws were not going to be an issue. A place where he can raise and care for Dravec. Sig 5. He split with Ambrose, despite getting along like the partner he never had, they both agreed it would be best to split for a small time being.
His time on Sig 5 was an experience, to say the least. Under the watchful eye of an Archive handler, Psovod and Dravec grew and bonded. The Stage III colony world was a perfect place to take the law into his own hands and take the occasional archivist investigation planetside.
