Antar

Antar is a city in the cavern nearby the Fright Zone.

Demographics

The city's population is comprised of Humans (60%) and Cyborgs (27%). In the past two years, populations of Scorponi have been returning to the area (8%). The remaining 5% of the population is made up of Reptilians, Magicats, and Orcs.

Government

The city functions as a kraterocracy, where those strong enough to enforce the rules, do.

Infrastructure

The city of Antar houses the only port, which is gearing up to service international trading again after it fell into disuse in the 1980s.   The city does have an extensive network of sewers and water mains. The sewer systems deposit all run off at the bottom of the canyon that makes up the city of Antar. With waste from factories, warehouses, and the Fright Zone, these tunnels are often toxic and the waste is hazardous to inhale. Previously maintained by the Horde, the maintenance and upkeep of these networks is quickly becoming a problem for the kingdom.

Districts

Topside

The topside of the city is bare land, and some older buildings no longer in use. The remains of the city that existed here only thirty years ago, once overlooking the rest of Antar below. Today, this area connects the upper levels to the scrapyard toward the Fright Zone

Upper Levels

While most of Antar's citizens have struggled to get by, living under the Horde's oppressive rule, the upper levels are where the wealthiest citizens live.   Up here, daylight actually manages to break through the smog of the city. Citizens of Antar travel to the upper levels to the 'nicer' shops and eateries. This main area here is known as Pandinus Square. Defined by the wide plaza connecting the West Side and East Side, with it's rail overlooking the antar streets. On the West Side, you'll find the Plants and Potions stop, and some of the wealthier residential buildings. If you cross the Upper Bridges, you can find Antar Bank, and the long road down to the Antar Docks.   The Plaza itself is home to a Weapons Shop, and the newly popular tavern, Lizzie's Bar.

Street Level

The Antar Streets make up the largest district of the city, stretching from just above the the-underground all the way up to where the top Overwatch Tower passes through the smog to the upper-levels above. The main street is wide and usually heavily populated.   On the East side, you'll find the Clothing Store and Odds & Ends General Store, along with other shops. In between those shops are the dangerous Alleyways of Antar, where children play by day, and shady business deals are made by night. You could cross the Residential District Bridge to enter the antar residential district if you're a local. On the other side of the Antar streets, the Tattoo Parlor marks the start of the West Side. If you continue past it, you'll find Antar's industry district. Old factories that used to belong to the Horde are slowly being repurposed.   The streets themselves look down the-underground below.

Underground

Reaching the underground, you come down the stairs from antar streets on the west side of the canyon. Move quickly, because Under The Stairs is darker than any alley, but just as dangerous. If you walk along the west side, you'll find the end of the city at Dead Man's Drop (Lookout). Most people avoid that way, and instead will cross the Last Bridge to arrive here, in Iuridae Square. The Square is home to the most popular tavern in Antar: Meg's Tavern. On the other side of the square, a short side street will lead you to Torgs Slop Shop.

History

In 1050 BK, Queen Zawe traveled the length of Ctonus Canyon. This became a decade of rebirth for the kingdom. The queen supported advancements in architecture, schools, the arts, and infrastructure to connect the canyon and promote peace across the region. On September 9th, the leaders of the canyon cities met in Anopiar to unify the canyon into one metropolis, unifying the struggling independent cities to thrive under one rule. The city of Anopiar sits north of the canyon and just above it. It was renamed Anpar “the Upper City”, while the unified canyon cities were named Antar “the Lower City”. The sister cities of Anpar and Antar became the center of Skaleria.   The Horde’s rule was a dark turning point for the city.  The Horde quickly turned the city into a manufacturing and industrial center. Run off from the factories and industry were deposited into Antar. The toxic waste and fumes of this runoff began to pollute the city from the bottom up. Much of the old city at the base of the canyon became abandoned and the buildings began to erode under the pollution. Over the next decade, Antar became full of air and water pollution. The Nepi Dae river, once the primary source of life for the people of Skaleria, is no longer visible at the base of the canyon, and is now called the sump: a river of pure waste and pollution. The city did become technologically advanced, with electricity powering the city, and running water and plumbing in most buildings, as well as an advanced sewage system.

Architecture

Antar's structures are crafted from lattice ironwork, built into the sizes of the Ctonus Canyon. The buildings in Antar were replaced and updated regularly during the Horde's rule, stripping them of any unnecessary material and leaving the bare bones of the structure behind.   City lights line the cavern to prevent the city from being dark, as it sits in the shadow of the canyon walls. The lines glow behind colored glass.
