Carterhaugh
"The largest city in the Faewild and capital of the Seelie Court, Carterhaugh is the home of thousands of Fae, and where the palace of the Faerie Queen is located. I've been there several times, and let me tell you: It is nowhere near as safe as it seems to outsiders." ~Church Paratir, Grand Archivist of the Authenian Archives.
Demographics
The most common races within Carterhaugh are Faeries and Gancanagh, with Satyrs being the third most common. Not every Fae needs to work, as they do not need to eat or drink. That being said, most find enjoyment in doing so, and are more than willing to work in order to partake in some of the otherworldly tastes of the cuisine of the Faewild. Many find work as chefs making food, often pastries as the Fae seem to have developped quite the sweet tooth. The vast majority work for the Seelie Court itself, serving as soldiers, scholars or servants for the Faerie Queen and the other Fae Nobility.
Government
There is no tax in Caterhaugh, as the Fae have very little need of money aside from using it to purchase sugary treats and strong drinks. The Seelie Court has no need of tax money, as their great magical power and their influence over the Faewild allows them to make their changes without public funding.
The Fae of Caterhaugh, as with everywhere else in the land ruled by the Seelie Court, answer to the Faerie Queen above all others. She rules with her limitless power, protecting those who serve her and destroying those who oppose her. While she listens to the other members of her Court, it is her decision alone that has bearing on the fate of Caterhaugh.
While there are laws to ensure that Fae do not physically assault or murder any mortal that visits Carterhaugh, there are no laws or regulations that stop the Fae from using deceptive contracts and pacts in order to force mortals into lives of servitude.
"If a mortal is stupid enough to fail to understand the true meanings of the pacts they agree to, I am under no responsibility to free them." ~ Alto Magnus, Lord of Peace and Member of the Seelie Court.
Defences
The walls of Carterhaugh are incredibly thick and durable, to the point where they can be exposed to cannon fire and not even show the slightest crack or dent. The thorns on the walls make it impossible to scale, and so much as a small scrape from these thorns will inflict mild sickness.
The Fae Knights of the Seelie Court are incredible warriors, capable of great feats, both physical and magical. They have supernatural agility, and have centuries of training with their weaponry. They wear adamant armour that has turned green due to the thin layer of lichen that is growing on it.
There are plenty of dormant curses that lie upon Carterhaugh, that activate upon a disturbance of the peace, and cause extreme harm to anyone shedding unnecessary amounts of blood. These curses range from causing phantasmal madness to excruciating amounts of pain all over the body of those who have awoken the curse.
Infrastructure
There are several windmills found throughout Carterhaugh, with the purpose of grinding down grains into flour to me made into sweetbreads and cakes. These windmills also help grind down the insides of sugarcane.
There are well paved roads in Carterhaugh, used by most Fae apart from Faeries due to their ability to fly. These roads are maintained regularly in order to ensure that the carriages used by the Fae of the Seelie Court can traverse the city with great ease and comfort.
Assets
The Gilded Glass is an alchemist shop within Carterhaugh, that sells ingredients and substances found in every realm, from Asphodel, to the Mortal Realm to the Faewild, ensuring that no matter where the customer is from, they can find exotic ingredients. This shop is frequently visited by Grand Archivist Church Paratir, who finds this shop very useful.
The Court's Horns is a blacksmith shop owned by a strange, but highly skilled mountain nymph. She can make any weapon, from a glaive, to a rifle. She cannot use iron in any of her work, because most Fae species burn when touching iron or any alloy of iron. Because of this, most of her works are made of bronze.
The Lake's Bounty is a large, three story tavern that sells Sapphire Sherry, a drink made from the crushed seeds of sapphire lotuses and fermented ghermain tree sap. It causes both drunkenness and vivid hallucinations. It is owned by the Satyr known as Myron.
Points of interest
The Palace of the Faerie Queen is located at the centre of Carterhaugh, and is where she and the other members of her Court meet in order to discuss ongoing affairs, opportunities, rumours and possible threats to the rule of the Seelie Court.
The Gardens of Janyte are a large botanical garden that is a popular meeting place for many of the residents of Carterhaugh, and even many of the mortal visitors of the Realm have admitted to the great beauty of the gardens and the plant life that can be found within.
Tourism
Carterhaugh, and the Faewild in general, are rarely visited by regular mortals on purpose. Those who visit Carterhaugh are often either adventurers or scholars of great power. Some come out of curiousity or with the goal of finding great fortune, but many find themselves there due to pacts they have entered with Fae spirits.
"When I visit the Faewild, it is for business, not pleasure. I often go to purchase exotic materials, such as Ghermain tree sap, sapphire lotus seeds and powdered unicorn horn." ~Church Paratir, Grand Archivist of the Authenian Archives. The Palace of the Faerie Queen only visited by mortals if they have entered pacts with either the Queen herself, or one of the higher ranking members of her Court. Mortals who try to enter but are not employed by members of the Seelie Court, often either are killed or forced to become servants of the Court, entering pacts without their consent.
Architecture
Carterhaugh is made out of smooth grey stone and green jade. It is a beautiful city with moss and ivy covering the majority of the walls and roofs. The roads are made out of cobbled, white quartz and shards of obsidian crushed into tiny pieces and then compressed into a smooth surface. Most buildings are partially made out of Ghermain wood, from the floor to support beams and stairs.
Geography
Carterhaugh is located near the Faewild's echo of the Arcadian Forests. The woodlands around the city camouflages Carterhaugh, thanks to the green jade used in its construction. The mountains to the north protect Carterhaugh from the violent winds of the echos of the Ice Wastes, and it is far enough away from the echo of the Poseiatic Ocean to have to worry about strong winds from the East.
