How Alto Magnus ascended from a simple Gancanagh to an Archfae is unknown, as the rituals needed to become an Archfae are a closely guarded secret. What is known, however, is that Alto Magnus is not the true name of this Fae, as he is unable to be cursed through this name.

For over one thousand years, Alto Magnus has been the Lord of Peace, a title that comes with a place in the Seelie Court, and the responsibility of maintaining some degree of peace over the territory owned by the Seelie Court. While he spends much of his time simply organizing the patrol routes of the Fae Knights, he also takes a more hands-on approach to dealing with organized crime.
Alto Magnus regularly shapeshifts and assumes different identities in order to infiltrate organized crime groups within the territory of the Seelie Court, and while he denies it, there are rumours of him also infiltrating the Unseelie Court.
Alto Magnus also has been a part of multiple diplomatic meetings that were planned with the intention of trying to repair the tense relationship between both the Seelie and Unseelie Courts. He has been invited to several diplomatic dinner parties in both Seelie and Unseelie territory.

Alto believes that a perfect world is one without strife, and so he has devoted his life to maintaining peace wherever he can. While seeing individual victims of circumstance does sadden him deeply, he focuses on bringing down larger threats, such as organized crime or the worsening relationship between the Seelie and Unseelie Courts.

Alto Magnus is a gifted actor, and he uses this ability to assume different identities and infiltrate groups that he believes to pose a threat to the Seelie Court and their citizens.
In terms of magical power, Alto Magnus is one of the more skilled and powerful members of the Seelie Court, though he is not quite at the level of power as the Faerie Queen.

Alto is incredibly vigilant and quick to act. As soon as he is notified of a potential threat to the peace of the Faewild, he pounces on it immediately. Sending battlions of Fae Knights to solve the problem, or dealing with it himself, once he has heard of an issue, it ceases to exist within a matter of days.

The Faerie Queen values the judgement of Alto Magnus, as she sees him as unbiased due to the fact that he has not invested into businesses or land like the other members of the Seelie Court have, making his word less likely to be motivated by self interest.
Church Paratir and Alto Magnus have met many times over the years, and while neither one particularly likes the other, they are forced to cooperate for as long as Church wants to be allowed to enter Carterhaugh.
Of all the members of the Seelie Court, no member is as well connected to the Fae Knights as Alto Magnus is. He has commanded them for centuries, rallied them during times of great danger and ensured that they are treated fairly. Outside of the Faerie Queen, the Fae Knights are most loyal to Alto Magnus.

Once an optimistic and friendly member of the Seelie Court, the centuries of restless work has made Alto replace his optimism with bitterness and his friendly nature with a stand-offish, professional personality. He no longer openly shows his concern or empathy, and rarely seeks company for reasons unrelated to business.
