I wanted to take the time to introduce myself.
My name is Taro. Of course, that isn't my real name, but a pseudonym, and technically I have many more than that. But that's silly and unimportant - Hi, my name is Taro. I am a parent, partner, and adoring pet owner of 2 dogs, a cat, and a ball python. I've been writing for as long as I can remember, since about first grade (I recently unearthed an old certificate, in fact) - I'm about 30 now. That isn't to say I'm necessarily good at it; I think that comes with time and practice, and isn't ultimatley for me to decide, but I've come to a place where it's sorta just... Time. It's now or never. Write that story, or it's all for nothing. You can imagine how many years I've cared far too much about what other people think, how many times I've scrapped all my ideas and started over, and just how long it's held me back. Now is the time for writing. Now is the time to, "Speak now," or forever hold my piece. I'd always been afraid of living a meaningless life, or not fulfilling my life's purpose - and this, I believe, is my life's purpose, to tell stories and create. Before I endeavored to write a book, I wanted to prove to myself that I even could, and I managed to write many short stories and a moment-to-moment episodic (alas, I never finished it, but it got to be 19 chapters long, to the tune of 145k words). I can do it, now, and so I must. I will. My only hope is to tell a story someone other than myself can enjoy, while also remaining true to myself and the story. I'm grateful for any who thought to stop by and join me for the ride; I hope you enjoy the stories I aim to tell, and the journeys each of my characters will take. It's going to be a bit bumpy, certainly very messy, and maybe more than a little confusing, and there will be heartbreak and pain and sadness too, but it'll be rewarding in the end. What I have planned is sure to be interesting at the very least.
Anyway, I figured this would be a good place for us all to start on this journey together. Now that I've introduced myself, go ahead and tell me something you've always wanted to see adopted by the wider fantasy genre. I'll tell you I've always wanted to see dumpster fairies as a more common trope in urban fantasy, whether as a sort of background creature or something greater. I think there's potential that's being overlooked there, silly as it sounds. What's a monster, race, or creature that should be more popular in your opinion and why?
