The Gatekeepers
Sufder Peaks Tunnel
Deep beneath the Sufder Peaks, the party ventured into the ancient tunnel system and discovered the long-forgotten dwarven base. Once home to the mercenary company known as the Gatekeepers, the base was a stronghold for their operations, where they built fighting constructs and rented them to the highest bidders. But over time, communication with the Gatekeepers ceased, and their existence faded into obscurity.
With the Grizzlefist scouts trailing behind, the party began exploring the abandoned base, soon encountering the remnants of the old dwarven constructs. These machines had gone haywire, attacking intruders on sight. After battling their way through, the party unearthed fragments of the base’s history: the Gatekeepers had become a sanctuary for dissidents and exiles from the Bulgorid Holdfast, including a brilliant scientist who had fled with groundbreaking research in his possession. Sponsored by the Gatekeeper leadership, this scientist had continued his experiments in a hidden metal laboratory buried deep within the complex.
Breaking into the lab, the party was greeted by an unstable planar portal crackling with chaotic energy. It became clear that the scientist's research involved planar travel, though something had gone horribly wrong. The party managed to stabilize and shut down the portal. As the machinery powered down, a metal cylinder emerged from the portal’s core. Just as Dimsum Gyoza retrieved the cylinder, the party was ambushed by a terrifying creature—a massive, panther-like beast with writhing tentacles, drawn from beyond the portal.
In the chaos of the battle, volatile machinery within the lab was damaged, threatening to explode. With moments to spare, the party defeated the creature and made their escape, fleeing just as the lab exploded behind them.
After ensuring the base had been cleared of enemies and looting what they could, the party returned to Gok's’s side. However, before Ulg'r would release him, he demanded a one-on-one fight with Gok. In a brutal confrontation, Gok emerged victorious (just before Ulg'r could spring his trap), and chaos erupted within the Grizzlefist tribe. The party seized the moment, escaping the lair amidst the confusion.
Once outside, they were met by Edyrm Holadi, who had been monitoring Dimsum through scrying. He was aware of the party's discovery, and Dimsum handed over the cylinder. In return, Holadi provided information on how to revive Ruffstrom Darkridge.
