Lakshmi

Prosperity, Weath & Fortune

Lakshmi is the embodiment of wealth, fortune and prosperity whether material or spiritual! Riches, fortune and especially beauty are equated to this devi, bestowed generously onto her worshippers. For this reason, she has been associated with Ylithuum, the element of earth who presides over precious metals, gems and other valuable materials. Ylithuum is also a matron of culture, history and traditions, all spritually enriching!

Overall, wealth, bounty and even victory all fall under Lakshmi's influence. She is married to a member of the Trimurti, Vishnu the Preserver (Rylis), and these two are so in love that even their human avatars are deeply enamoured with each other! Such as in the epic Ramayana wherin Rama attempts to rescue his wife Sita from an evil demon lord, both being their incarnations.

Depiction

Lakshmi wraps herself in a red sari with golden threads strung from arm to arm, perching peacefully atop a lotus flower. She has four arms, each of which represent a different purusarthas, two arms carrying lotus flowers while the remaining two hold a pot of gold. Lakshmi is immensely generous, pouring out this pot for those in need. Sometimes coins even spring from her palms, creating a rain of glittering gold! In fact, she is often depicted surrounded by a bounty of treasure and vegetables while two elephants shower her with water! But her own vahana is actually the owl Uluka.
