The Ashvins, also known as
Asvins Kumara or
Asvinau or independantly as
Nasatya and
Darsa, are
twin gods of
health, medicine, dawn, science and fertility. As liminal gods, these divine doctors
can exist in both the mortal and immortal worlds, upholding the vitality and well-being of those in need. In this way, they represent the
connection between divine intervention and human health--they are a bridge between the Devas and humanity. They traverse the skies each day and search for humans in crisis, offering their aid, answering prayers, healing the sick and save those on the brink of death--especially those who are drowning, desparate or abandoned. In fact, the Ashvins are equated to
Malrot and
Zuvaath who have blessed many Sanatanis in
Bharatavarsa and
Suwarnadwipa with the forms of aquatic species, saving countless Sanatanis from drowning in these underwater habitats! Alternately, some equate the Ashvins to
Vekaltor and
Rylmer, celestial Devas bringing rain in the wake of droughts. There are other Devas which look down on the Ashvins for how much time they spend in the company of mortals but they go on unperturbed.
