Adharma
The great villain and embodiment of disorder and unrighteousness, Adharma opposes everything that Sanatana Dharma stands for! He is the opposite of Dharmadeva, god of order, embodying chaos, lawlessness and immorality. He is often seen as an idea or universal force instead of an actual person but when he is personified, he is a being who commits violence, falsehood, unjust action and deceit. Unlike other devas, Adharma has no worshippers and no temples, a mostly symbolic and villainous figure and a figurehead for asuras.
Jainas view Adharma as a force which causes immobility and stagnation, as opposed with Dharmadeva which instigates motion and progression. Other qualities of Adharma include betrayal, discord, disharmony, unnaturalness, wrongness, wickedness and vice. As a perversion of the natural order, there are three actions associated with Adharma. These three vices are pride, erotic contact and intoxication, believed to lead one toward a bad future. |
