Sky Ships
There are records, though they are few and far between, that articulate that during the Third Era of the world, called; the Age of Charter magic, there were ships that sailed through the skies like birds. Though much of those records had been lost, the sheer fact that they once were had propelled scholars forward, seeking to rediscover the secrets of these flying ships.
The modern sky ship is thanks to a Gargoyle of the Free Cities, history remembers them as Kildar, who unlocked the secrets of the Charter Magic engines known as Cloud Wrights and who created the first flying ship since that bygone age. It is unfortunate that directly after this discovery, Kildar apparently commissioned a great fleet of these sky ships with aims to invade Aldacairn, a move which was met decisively by the Emperor himself. This confrontation was joined over the Free City of Drotha, whose outskirts still bare the skeletons of those reborn vessels. Kildar was taken into custody and imprisoned by the Aldain, but their work opened the floodgates for the skies to be sailed once again.
Power Generation
In order to propell itself through the air, all sky ships are outfitted with a Charter Magic engine called a Cloud Wright. This device, when fastened to the structure, acts as both a power source and a propulsion system, allowing the pilot to take the ship into the air and move. Manipulation of the Cloud Wright also allows the pilot to steer the vessel it is attached to.
Additional & auxiliary systems
Most Sky ships are built to resemble their sea farring cousins, in the way of a hull that skirts the cloud, containing lower decks, and an upper deck that is occupied by various structures of rigging as well as the pilot's station with a directional wheel and series of leavers that direct the vessel where to move. However, the design of the vessels has changed dramatically and very quickly in a short amount of time, leading to a great deal of variety.
It is not uncommon to see sky ships sporting sails, much like their sea farring cousins, however, it is more common to see sky ships with numerous masts of sails on either side of the ship, or even below the hull of the ship. These grant the vessel more versitility will flying, allowing the wind to propell the vessel in conjunction with the Cloud Wright and pilot.
