Dwarves

Dwarves are the stout, and often shorter of the races that populates Ellecrid. Recognized by their powerful builds and broad features, their height has never been a reason to discount them. They are formidable and resolute in their ways in storied traditions and histories.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dwarves bear a humanoid like skeleton, however, it seems to be compressed in some way, leadin to their stout physique. They share most similarities with humans, however, their Gall Bladders are a notable size larger than humans or elves. In comparison to other humanoids, they have broader foreheads and denser bones than others. Their increased bone density has been the main contributor to the Dwarves well documented weight, despite being slighter in many cases in comparison to other humanoids.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dwarves reproduce as all mammals do, with the conception of a child between a male and famale dwarf, where the female will bear the child for twelve months before giving birth.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dwarves generally observe a strong diet to sustain their builds. They are omnivorous, but consume a far less amount of green vegetables in comparison to root vegetables.

Biological Cycle

Dwarves all experience puberty earlier than any other humanoid. Dwarves will begin to develop around the age of six to eight and will continue to change up until the age of fifteen. At that point, they are considered to be matured, but will continue to mentally develop until they are eighteen years old, at which point, they have reached their full development.

Facial characteristics

Dwarves tend to have broader foreheads and wide noses. Their heads are also generally more square than any othe humanoids, which are generally round or angular.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dwarves, as a whole, generally do not have any superior sensory abilities. The most commonly understood sensory superiority Dwarves have over other humanoids would be their superior darkvision.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Dwarves speak, read, and write their own tongue, called Odian, Dwarven to the common tongue. Odian is written in the Giant script and alphabet. Depending on the breeds of Dwarves and locales, the language may devolve into distinct dialects.

Common Myths and Legends

Legends say that when Oatheos, the Father of Giants, created the giants, he drew the attention of the goddess Kesseya, who both admired and sought after him. When he rejected her, she grew very bitter and jaded against him and his kin. With the help of an outside source, she cursed the giants, as retribution for their Father's scorn of her. She cursed them to bear children that would be as their reflections in pools of water. From this curse, the Giants gave birth to the Dwarves in their next generation before giving birth to giants once again.
