Tariqurade
Forest-dwelling sister species of Taridurane , a water-dwelling creature that eats algae and zooplankton.
The Tariqurade live in the bottom echoleons of the Raliok trees, and feed on the detritus of the trees.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Cartilage makes up most of its limbs and body, where its skin is thick and pooled around its neck and limbs like bunched up fabric. The limbs have thick claws to grasp the trees' branches and trunk, and webbing between the limbs allows the creature to glide from tree to tree.
Genetics and Reproduction
Some species produce sexually, though any one creature can be any gender. All species tend toward three genders, where a neutral gender is their primary state, though in fall, they will change gender depending on how close to the canopy the creature is -- the more sunlight it absorbs, the more likely the creature will change to a female gender. Once impregnated, the female will burrow underground, and give birth.
There is a sub-species that produces asexually. For this sub-species, located mostly near the equator, they burrow underground and reproduce, where the smaller clone-like versions of them grow out of the back of the creature and split off after about a week-long gestation period.
Growth Rate & Stages
Growth rate of all species is about two qaesa, where the adults teach the young the pathways of the trees and how to glide. Once reaching adulthood, the young venture off in clusters of four to five at at time to build their own communities.
Ecology and Habitats
They live in the lower levels of the Raliok Forest, where light is scarce, and a perpetual twilight looms over the lower branches and thick undergrowth that coats the ground.
Additional Information
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Predominantly lives on Vera.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They have limited eyesight, but their hearing is powerful with a range of 5 decibels up to 100,000 decibels, where the hearing canals are located near their eyes, and another set near their tail. Their skin is extra sensitive with fine hairs that can sense the direction of air and molecules in the air, and their mouth has sensitive smell organs to help them smell out their food -- the rotting stench attracts them.
