Implicit Trust and Respect of the Steward

As the primary councilor for the Steward, the person in this position will need to have the full trust and respect of the Steward.

Not Necessarily of Noble Birth

While powerful nobles or scions of major houses might be chosen for one reason or another, the sacred nature of the role allows for individuals with exceptional intellect, wisdom, or spiritual purity to ascend to it.

Approval of the Four Great Houses

All four great houses must approve of the person chosen by the Steward, and they have up to one year to veto someone.

This position is by direct appointment of the Steward of the Seasons.

Chief Advisor to the Steward

The Councilor of the Maiden provides counsel to the Steward on all matters of state, including law, policy, military strategy, and foreign relations. This often makes him or her the Steward's primary confidante.

Acting Leader/Proxy

Possesses the explicit authority to act in the Steward's name and with their full power whenever the Steward is absent and cannot be reached readily. This includes being able to work with other members of the council to issue commands to the military or the treasury.

Head of the Council of Mauribon

This Councilor serves as the 'Vice-Chair' of the council and thus presides over it when the Steward is absent. They also set the agenda for each meeting, and ensure that each member of the council is fulfilling their duties.

Daily Governance

Ensures that the Steward's Degrees are spread and implemented throughout the Enclaves and handles much of the top level administrative work.

Audits and Oversight

Monitors the performance of provincial rules and lesser nobles, addressing inefficiencies or corruption.
