Talburg

Perched on Aethel’s northeastern coastline, Talburg serves as both a vital naval hub and a booming port city for eastern trade. While Enselt trains officers and oversees the design of the nation’s fleets, Talburg focuses on the rank-and-file sailors, marines, and the shipwrights that keep Aethel’s navy seaworthy and efficient. It’s a city of barracks and ballast, discipline and dockside commerce. Despite the omnipresence of military structure, Talburg has cultivated a distinct cultural identity: one where laughter echoes through taverns, merchant calls ring out over rolling surf, and sea shanties are as common as sermons.

Government

Talburg's command is split between the Church-appointed Pralat Vaelren and Commander Aldric Thorn, a decorated and ambitious naval officer.
Trade merchants, meanwhile, are quietly angling for more influence, and some worry that if war breaks out with Imenia, Talburg’s strategic location may make it the one of the first targets.

Points of interest

  • The Crimson Hall: Central command and administrative center for Talburg’s naval training forces. It oversees recruitment, logistics, and disciplinary courts.
  • Saltwind Fields: A sprawling parade ground and combat course used to break in recruits with endless drills and night marches.
  • Dockmaster’s Guildhall: Half-trade office, half-spy post, the guild manages dock assignments and quietly reports on unusual naval activity.
  • Architecture

Talburg hugs the coast in a crescent shape, its wide bay protected by stone breakwaters and a fortified lighthouse at the harbor’s mouth. The city is organized into three main districts:
Tidewall Barracks: A disciplined, orderly district where the enlisted naval recruits live and train. Parade grounds and naval drill fields dominate the landscape.
Harborward: A sprawling port and warehouse district teeming with cargo, fishing vessels, merchant galleons, and naval supply ships.
Oldcrest: The original settlement, now a residential and market district home to bakers, cobblers, clergy, and a smattering of retired sailors who claim they "taught the sea how to rock."
The city is interlaced with rope bridges and canals, allowing for small boat passage between densely packed docks and neighborhoods. A network of seawalls and tide-gates protects the city from flooding.
