Oath of the Primordials

The Oath of the Primordials is sworn by paladins who revere the ancient forces that shaped the cosmos before the rise of gods. These Primordials—titanic beings of earth, fire, wind, sea, storm, void, and more—carved the bones of the world, breathed its skies, and poured molten essence into its veins. To the Primordial paladin, gods are latecomers—usurpers who imposed order upon the wild majesty of the world. Rather than bend knee to divine dogma, they embrace the raw truths of creation itself. Some serve a single Primordial entity, others act in balance, protecting the boundary between elemental chaos and mortal civilization. They often take on traits of the elements they venerate and wield powers that warp the battlefield with natural fury.   Many fear these paladins as unorthodox, even heretical. Yet none can deny their might—for they call not upon heaven’s grace, but upon the primal screams of the world’s first breath.

Tenets of the Primordials

1st-Level Paladin (Oath of the Primordials) Feature   Though Primordial oaths vary by region and element, all who swear this ancient pact hold these truths sacred:
Endurance of Stone. The world was forged by fury and pressure. Let your will be as enduring as the bedrock beneath your feet.
Clarity of the Open Sky.Let your mind be clear and unshackled. Speak truth, think freely, and rise above petty quarrels like the wind over the peaks.
Adaptability of the Tides. As water takes the shape of its vessel, so must you flow around obstacles. Flexibility is not weakness, but wisdom.
Honor the First Flame.Creation began in flame and storm. Never forget the world’s true masters were not gods, but fire and fury.

Until you finish your next long rest, your divine smite deals the chosen damage type instead of its normal damage type. When you gain Improved Divine Smite, it deals the same damage type.

Channel Divinity: Voice of the Deep Earth

3rd-Level Paladin (Oath of the Primordials) Feature   As an action, you call on the ancient might of the earth to command obedience. Each creature of your choice within 30 feet that can hear you must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be knocked Prone and unable to stand up until the end of your next turn, as the ground shifts and binds them. Creatures immune to being prone instead have their movement speed halved until the end of your next turn.

Channel Divinity: Wrath of the First Flame

3rd-Level Paladin (Oath of the Primordials) Feature   As a bonus action, you wreathe your weapon in primordial fire for 1 minute or until you fall Unconscious. When you hit with a melee weapon attack, you deal an extra 1d8 fire damage. This damage ignores resistance to fire damage.

Aura of Raw Creation

7th-Level Paladin (Oath of the Primordials) Feature   You and creatures of your choice in your Aura have resistance to the damage type dealt by your Divine Smite.

Elemental Apotheosis

15th-Level Paladin (Oath of the Primordials) Feature   Your bond with the primordial elements deepens. You are now immune to being paralyzed or restrained. Avatar of the Primal Powers

20th-Level Paladin (Oath of the Primordials) Feature   You become a living vessel for the Primordials. As an action, you transform for 1 minute, gaining the following benefits:
  • You emanate a 30-foot aura of shifting elemental fury. When an enemy enters the aura or starts its turn there, it must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take 3d10 damage of the same type as your Divine Smite.
  • The first time you hit with a weapon attack, you deal an additional 1d10 damage of the same type as your Divine Smite.
  • You are immune to Acid, Cold, Fire, and Lightning damage.
Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
