Spore-Bonded Kaari’dollan

Basic Information

Anatomy

Kaari’dollan are squat, armature-shelled organisms with overlapping crystalline segments. Their underside contains vented spore-nodes and curved hook-limbs used for bonding.

Biological Traits

  • Vented spore glands
  • Crystalline armor
  • Internal spore capsule chambers

Genetics and Reproduction

All female. They require exposure to Vael’kaari spores to fertilize their internal eggs. Offspring are laid in moist, sun-warmed sediment near open lakes on grassy plains.

Growth Rate & Stages

  • Sporespawn
  • Crystalback Juvenile
  • Venting Adult
One full rotation cycle to maturity (~6 months).

Ecology and Habitats

Lives in burrowed tunnels lined with hardened secretion to trap humidity. Roams during Talorian, seeking forest edge lakes for mating.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Native to Umbrenor’s grassy plains and open lakebeds, the Kaari’dollan evolved in sun-drenched lake valleys infused with wild magic. Their ancient ancestors were likely mineral-feeders mutated by arcane storm runoff.   Consumes mineral-rich sediment and surface lichen independently. Only feeds during bonded state by drawing nutrients from Vael’kaari partner.

Biological Cycle

  • Dormant in Alagorian (inert, appears fossilized)
  • Active in Talorian (glowing, mobile, fertile)

Behaviour

Highly territorial and reclusive when unbonded. Once bonded, enters a trance-like state of sustained stillness.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Solitary by nature. Bonds with only one Vael’kaari per lifecycle.

Domestication

Not viable. Will perish in captivity or environments lacking natural lake rhythms.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

  • Crystal shell fragments valued in jewelry and protection wards.
  • Hook secretion used in alchemy to treat magical nerve degradation.

Facial characteristics

Lacks a traditional face; sensory feelers retract into armored ridges. Feeding port only opens during dormancy.

Average Intelligence

Very low; driven by biological imperative.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Can detect vibrations in the soil and arcane traces in the air. Uses magneto-sensitive nodes to trace Vael’kaari spores.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Vael’kaari – provides essential spores and nutrient exchange during dormancy.

Symbiotic Lifecycle of the Spore-Bonded Species of Umbrenor

Vael'kaari(Host Species) Native to Umbrenor’s forest lakes, the Vael’kaari is an iridescent, spore-reactive creature that enters dormancy during the Talorian phase. It provides golden spores and acts as the nutrient-exchange partner during bonded sleep.   Kaari’dollan(Symbiotic Parasite) Dwelling near open grassland lakes, the Kaari’dollan is an onyx-armored, fungal-backed symbiont that becomes active in the Talorian phase. It secretes spores needed to trigger Vael’kaari fertilization and bonds by forming a spherical shell.   Verdant Hollowkin(Bonded State) Often misidentified as a unique magical species, this spherical creature is the fusion of Vael’kaari and Kaari’dollan during their synchronized reproductive state. It is found at the borders of forest and plains during cycle overlaps.
