Gravesong Glade

Geography

Tucked deep within the mists of Umbrenor’s ancient interior, Gravesong Glade rests between shadowed ridges and forgotten tributaries. The land here breathes uneasily, the soil soft and unnaturally warm, veined with glimmering strata of petrified marrow and crystallized blood. Though largely isolated, it's accessible through druidic paths that only reveal themselves to those marked by draconic dreams.

Ecosystem

This is no ordinary forest. Gravesong’s ecosystem is partially sentient, guided by the latent draconic will of its founding corpses. Canopy and undergrowth alike shimmer with iridescent hues—vines crackle with arcane electricity, flowers breathe frost or exhale smoke, and moss glows faintly with psychic hums. Predators are few, but prey is rare; everything here is predatory in its own way, even the trees.

Ecosystem Cycles

The Glade experiences chaotic growth patterns tied to celestial alignments. Each full eclipse triggers a metamorphic cycle wherein the flora briefly manifests dragonlike behaviors—screaming winds, wing-shaped branches, or bursts of elemental breath mimicked in leaf and bark. In these hours, the forest becomes a living eulogy.

Localized Phenomena

The eclipse events are the most visible phenomena, but other localized oddities persist year-round. Certain glades replay the final cries of long-dead dragons as harmonic echoes. Pools of reflective sap reveal visions of past and future. Occasionally, the forest "claims" visitors, merging them with root and memory, leaving behind statues of barked skin and glowing eyes.

Climate

Temperatures remain unnaturally stable, regardless of season, cool, humid, and tinged with a scent like burnt amber. Rainfall is sporadic but often follows the draconic “weeping cycles” tied to ritual offerings left by druids and pilgrims. Thunder is common, even on clear nights.

Fauna & Flora

Different dragon types shape each patch of the Glade.
  • Amethyst Vines whip with force bursts when threatened.
  • Radiant Blossoms (Crystal) emit soft sunlight and burn undead.
  • Mindroot Briars (Emerald) hum with psychic pulses.
  • Thunderstalk Mushrooms (Sapphire) release booming spores.
  • Necropetals (Topaz) wilt into black ichor with necrotic fumes.
  • Drakebark Trees (Gold, Red, Brass) release intense heat during growth cycles.
Draconic insects, bone-backed birds, and spectral serpents drift through the trees, many thought to be soulbound echoes of the dragons themselves.

Natural Resources

The soil here is imbued with:
  • Draconic Blood Soil – Used in rituals and rare alchemical potions.
  • Draconic Soul Stones – Iridescent crystals housing the final breath of dragons.
  • Petrified Dragon Eggs – Prized relics often mistaken for treasure but feared for what they might hatch if reawakened.

History

Before the Sundering, an ancient draconic war broke out between two now-forgotten broods—one bound to the Veilbound Pantheon, the other seeking dominion over the weave itself. The battle tore the sky and cracked the ley lines, leaving hundreds of dragons dead. Their remains seeded the land with arcane power and mourning, birthing Gravesong Glade. When the Sundering came, the already-weakened ground fractured, deepening the forest's magic and further entwining the dragon spirits with the landscape.

Tourism

Despite its dangers, Gravesong Glade draws pilgrims, scholars, and adventurers alike. Guided rituals by druidic orders allow visitors to witness the eclipse bloom, offering insight into the dragon legacy. Some seek enlightenment; others, power. No one leaves unchanged.
