APPEARANCE/PHENOTYPE
This plant displays a tall, cane-like trunk with narrow, strap-shaped leaves arranged in spirals near the top. The foliage is stiff, lanceolate, and tapers to a fine point, showing a glossy green surface with occasional pale longitudinal striping. Its overall profile is columnar, with leaves forming a fountain-like spray that maximizes light capture in shaded understories.   Closer observation shows a thickened, fibrous bark along the trunk, adapted to store water and resist desiccation. The plant rarely branches, instead developing single or clustered stems that ascend steadily toward the canopy. When mature, its height lends it the impression of a sentinel among lower ground flora.
