APPEARANCE/PHENOTYPE
The Cipreas Naofa is a tall, columnar cypress characterized by thick, buttressed trunks and fibrous, vertically furrowed bark. Mature specimens can form massive groves, with individual trunks often exceeding 2 m in diameter. The canopy is conical to irregular with scale-like leaves, dark green in coloration, arranged densely on slender twigs. Seeds are borne in woody cones, 2–4 cm in diameter, which persist on branches for extended periods.   This species often occurs in nutrient-rich soils where water tables are high, favoring lowland groves and sacred sites. Its massive root systems interweave, creating natural barriers and stabilizing soils. Ecologically, the Sacred Cypress provides critical nesting and roosting habitats for birds and insects, while also moderating local humidity.
