SD Session 5: A Beachside Murder

Month 13, Week 2 - Month 13, Week 4, Year 941   With winter fast approaching and the Ageless One Festival Week right around the corner, several members of the Gilded Hecat Guild were eager for any opportunity to make some extra gold. ROland had spent much of his adventuring income on magic items from the Handgun, so when agents from the thieves guild reached out to him about a potential mission that would lead to a 10% discount on all future purchases the warforged quickly assembled a team to get the job done.   The Handgun wanted an arms dealer by the name of Onfroi the Green eliminated. His operation arming Desperoagainst the Rakkan invasion was interfering with the Handgun's trade networks in the region, not to mention his use of magic items for such a frivolous cause. The arms dealer was last spotted in the coastal town of Brei, just a day's journey from the front lines between the two kingdoms. As a native Desperan, Vanorin came up with the idea of enlisting in the military and requesting the first assignment that would take them south.   The idea worked in getting them out of Havre, but they overshot their destination by a bit since their ship was headed straight towards the besieged city of Ovid. The adventurers had to jump ship in the middle of the night and desert the military, rowing onto the shores of an eerily silent Brei. The party settled in for the night at a shady-looking tavern and picked up some leads, and thankfully the wanted posters mentioning their desertion were woefully inaccurate in their physical descriptions.   Following up on the leads the next morning, the adventurers discovered what at first appeared to be a ramshackle hut on the beach was really Onfroi's secret hideout. They found the hideout's underwater passageway and sabotaged all the boats, cutting off Onfroi's exits as they prepared for a confrontation. The arms dealer put up a fight and threw out some surprising spells, but his minions got distracted and Onfroi was unable to find an opening to escape from the fight. The adventurers burned his body and collected all the magic items they could find from his safe, slowly trekking back north towards GHG HQ. Gentian felt a bit conflicted about participating in the mission since he'd help spare Onfroi's life just a couple months prior, but at least ROland's discount with the Handgun would apply to him as well.
