The thick bit of parchment in his hand was just another reminder that his sister would stop at nothing to be the only heir. It was old and from a time they didn't remember but every announcement for their entire lives had always been similar. Tristan first as he was first born and the natural heir to their massive estate and responsibilities. He flipped the paper as he thought back, trying to pin point the exact moment his sister began to resent his existence. When they were children they were inseparable but as they grew he was pulled away for training, classes and education that would be "unnecessary" for her to learn. He wondered if "unnecessary" was how she felt and why she started teaching herself in secret. He turned to the dead assassin on his bedroom floor and considered what he should do now. Tristiana's hate for him had evidently grown since they were now of age. If he were to be married he would take over as holder of the estate from their parents and that was the last thing she wanted. It was the last thing he wanted. No matter how many times she would manipulate, embarrass or mortally wound him, he still had that child-like love for his sister. He had made up his mind. He would leave, tonight, and make it seem he had died along the river. He took as little as he could and hoped that she would finally be happy.
Maybe he could find happiness of his own this way. He silently promised himself to never return.
