Lake Rathetear

Lake Rathetear is a large lake west of the Qeynos Hills. It is nestled between two spurs of the Rathe Mountains and contained by a 70 meter high travertine which closes off the spurs from the lands to the east, acting as a dam for the valley behind.    The primary entrance to the lake is through Blackburrow; however, it is also possible to scale the travertine for those with strong climbing skills. In Combine times, large bridges crossed the lake. These bridges have long since fallen into disrepair and partially collapsed. Those who swim across the lake will find the haunted Combine capital, Katta Ptoliethron, on the southwestern side. A Rathian village called Lakuondoan exists on the northeastern shore and an aviak aerie is perched on the cliffs overlooking the north western shore. The island closest to Katta Ptoliethron has a set of Combine Spires.  

NPCs

  Aviak Chick (2-4): Found in the aerie.   Aviak Fisherman (16-20): Found diving into the lake after fish and at the aerie.   Aviak Warrior (20-23): Found in the aerie.   Charybdis (40): A water monster that sometimes roams the lake.   Harpies (26-28): Several harpies live amongst the trees of one of the islands   Hydra (75): The hydra is a legendary level monster dwelling in a cave at the bottom of the lake. It can only be killed by fire, so it must be lured onto land. It has an area effect poison breath attack and an area affect poison effect that is triggered every time the hydra takes non-fire damage. The monster makes single target bite attacks with each of its heads.   Lakuko Bertsolari (14-16): A Rathian bard found in the village.   Lakuko Druid (16-17): A Rathian Druid found in the center of the village.   Lakuko Fisherman (12): A Rathian fisherman. These NPCs are found near the village of Lakuondoan.   Lakuko Gudari (16-19): A Rathian warrior found in the village.   Manticore (35): A manticore can be found on one of the islands in the lake. It is aggressive to all.   Naiad (20-24): A fae creature of the Seelie Court. Several naiads are found on the north side of the largest island of the lake. They have druid and enchanter spells.   Scylla (40): A water monster that sometimes roams the lake.   Satyr (20-24): A fae creature of the Unseelie Court. Several Satyrs are found on the south side of the largest island in the lake. They have berserker abilities.
