Duchess Margarita ir'Yanus
Duchess-Mother Margarita ir'Yanus (née Zaikina) is the mother of Duke Alexander ir'Yanus and Pvt. Charlotte ir'Yanus, and the widow of Duke Bogdan ir'Yanus. She lives in Vulyar Castle with her son.
Born a commoner in Mapleyard, her father Ernest Zaikin died in the war when she was a young child, and her mother Oksana Zaikina remarried with a jeweler from Vulyar with whom she had three more children.
She met Bogdan ir'Yanus, then a young officer in the ducal guard, when she delivered a necklace ordered by Duchess ir'Kuntsler to Vulyar Castle. The two dated for two years before marrying in 981. They had twins, Charlotte and Alexander, the next year.
The Yanuses moved to the castle in 989 when Bogdan was promoted to the rank of major, working directly under Duke ir'Kunstler. The same year, Margarita's half-brother Niklas was caught fleeing the battlefield and was brought before the duke for judgment, with Bogdan acting as the prosecutor. Wanting to avoid any appearances of favoritism, Bogdan recommended the usual punishment for deserters during wartime, and Niklas was executed and revived as an undead soldier. Margarita defended her husband's decision, enraging her mother, who moved her family to Karrlakton and cut off contact with the Yanuses. Oksana died in 1000, not having reconciled with her daughter.
Bogdan was appointed Duke in 992 following Kunstler's failed rebellion. Margarita remained a discreet duchess; she did not like making too many public appearances and did not involve herself in affairs of state, instead focusing on raising her children. Bogdan died on New Year's Day, 1005; Alexander became the new duke and Charlotte soon left the castle to join the military.
