The Fall of Heaven’s Blade

The Third War of Light and Darkness was not merely a battle of armies—it was the culmination of nearly a century of divine conflict, a final attempt by the gods to reclaim Ebbavion from the clutches of Celian Maleficium and her empire of Kael’Dun. But while the angelic host prepared for war with their greatest strength yet, Celian had used the intervening decades to prepare something far more insidious.

By this time, her grasp of chaos and corruption had deepened. She no longer sought to outmatch her enemies through brute force alone. Instead, she sought to break their unity—from within.

Among her most cunning creations was Sylix, a powerful incubus and one of her oldest and most loyal servants. Unlike the more brutish Demon Generals, Sylix was a creature of patience and subtlety. His mission was clear: get close to the angels. Break them. Twist them.

He chose his target well.

During the fragile truce before the third war began, Sylix approached Nilsa in a mortal guise—one of grace, strength, and understanding. Still carrying the burden of her time imprisoned in Sarr’vasen, Nilsa had grown volatile. Her once-pure sense of justice had become sharpened into vengeance. She longed for understanding, for release. And Sylix offered both.

What began as hidden conversations soon turned into a forbidden bond—a secret relationship concealed even from her closest companions. Though she remained devoted to her cause in name, her heart began to fracture, pulled between two forces: divine justice, and personal truth.

When the war began in 19885 BCE, the angels descended once more. Reforged and renewed, they led a wide-scale campaign across Valon and southern Eslira. The mortal races joined them in what would become the largest alliance against Kael’Dun ever assembled.

At first, the campaign was a success. Cities fell back into mortal hands. Demon forces were repelled. And then—Nilsa struck.

During what should have been the decisive assault on the outer ring of Viremalas, Nilsa turned on her own.

Without warning, in the heart of the final strategy council, Nilsa slew Maccius, her commander and oldest comrade. The other angels were forced to retreat in chaos as their lines collapsed. Leander was wounded. Solastra vanished into the infernal siege. Nilsa disappeared into the night—and reemerged days later leading Celian’s elite vanguard, her divine swords now cracked and glowing with abyssal energy.

This betrayal shattered what hope remained. The angels faltered, not just from loss, but from the weight of disbelief. A paragon had fallen—not in battle, but by choice. The war collapsed soon after.

By 19876 BCE, the war was over. The divine forces were broken. Celian’s hold became unchallenged once more. The gods did not send another host. The mortal resistance dwindled. The City of Stone stood untouched, and Nilsa, once called the Seraph of the Blade, became known in whispered curses as the Traitor Queen.

Her fall marked the end of the Wars of Light and Darkness—and began a new era of quiet fear.

“It was not her blade that undid us. It was her heart.” – Leander, in exile
