Hope Rekindled, and Shadows Deepened

The second attempt of the angels and elves to free Ebbavion from the demon's grasp.

Three decades after their defeat in the First War, the forces of light once again rose to challenge the tyranny of Celian Maleficium and her Kael’Dun empire. With her grip still tightening over Ebbavion and her demons spreading further into central Valon, the gods sought to ignite a second great uprising - one forged not only in divine fire, but in hard-won mortal resolve.

The angels did not fight alone. Mortal races rose with them: elven clans, human rebels, dwarven forge-wrights, and even redeemed giants joined the cause. Though her enemies were stronger, Celian was less direct this time. Her strategy turned inward - toward corruption, misdirection, and psychological warfare.

Several major victories gave the war its momentum:

The Burning of Gorrak-Thul, where Leander’s forces annihilated a demon hatchery.

The Sundering of the Ash Spire, a soul-fueled tower razed by Solastra’s hammer.

The Liberation of the Nine Chains, a soul-prison buried beneath Manfail Isle, where thousands were freed from demonic pacts.

And the Siege of Sarr'vasen, a critical battle in the ancient city that would later become known as Vasier, the modern-day capital of Eslira.

It was during the siege of Sarr’vasen that tragedy struck the angelic host. In a daring attempt to save a captured mortal commander, Nilsa was lured into a trap and captured by two Demon Generals. She was taken into the depths of the city and imprisoned in a ritual chamber for three days.

Though Maccius and Solastra recovered her, something within Nilsa had shifted. Her divine light remained, but flickered. Her presence, once serene and unshakable, now surged with raw emotion - grief, vengeance, and an unspoken rage. Her swords moved with discordant energy, like they no longer obeyed her will alone.

She denied corruption, and none dared question her strength. But those closest to her knew: a seed had been planted.

The war ended not in triumph or loss, but stalemate. Celian’s empire endured, though bruised. Her armies retreated to fortify Viremalas, preparing for the storm she knew was still to come. The gods, wary of another drawn-out war, withdrew their angels to recover—unaware of the storm already growing within their own ranks.

"We won ground... but lost something far more fragile." – Solastra, years later
