Water
Mood
Close your eyes for a moment and think of the colors BLUE. What do you see in your mind's eye and what do you feel?
Sea, waves, waterfalls, coral reefs, gentleness, trust, distance, revelation, faith, clarity?
This calming, slightly cool, level-headed atmosphere meets a colorful, diverse floating world under and on the water on the continent of the water element.
Water gives life and can take on all physical states. It changes without resistance and finds its way into every crack. It is a mirror of our soul and connects the upper and subconscious. Our feelings can boil like water, swirl, carry away or gently ripple along.
Theme, Scene & People
The continent of the water element is inspired by the tropical islands of Oceania, mangrove forests, the watercourses of major rivers such as the Amazon, Congo and Brahmabutra and the Everglades.
Landscapes such as water forests, sand banks, meander deltas, archipelagos, swamp areas, coral reefs, submarine waterfalls and whirlpool mountains fascinate above and below water.
Water dragons and frog-fish humanoids are the two main species on the continent that maintain close contact with each other. If you now want to ask: "But where are the mermaids, sirens, merpeople?" - don't. There probably won't be any here or they'll have died out long ago.
The ethnicities of the humanoid species are influenced by the Maori and Polynesian or seafaring cultures. The basic idea is a simple culture that is in harmony with nature but doesn't need much to be happy.
Their language is based on animal sounds that can be heard in and around the water, such as the croaking of frogs or the songs of whales. That's why this language is the most difficult with few vowels and many tones.
Water dragons know everything and can speak any language. They don't have a direct culture yet, although some of them live in a shared apartment in an undersea dragon lair. So there could be something like rules of etiquette.
Inspirations
Music
Sounds of the cultures of Oceania, piano strokes that sound like the dripping of water, the sound of the sea, whale songs and the singing of mermaids are the music for the water element. Before you say anything: even if the mermaids have long since become extinct in this world, the music is simply too beautiful not to include it on this list.
Movies, Series & Books
Avatar - The way of water - When I saw this film in the cinema and the Na'vi of the forest had their experiences underwater for the first time, I had tears in my eyes - beautiful, you just want to dive along. The Water Na'vi live a simple life by the sea, which must be protected from invading humans.
Vaiana (Moana) - In this animated film from Disney, the Maori Moana goes on an adventurous sea voyage with the demigod Maui to save her people from destruction. Traditions, myths and the path into the unknown take us on an exciting journey into the world of the Maori.
Aquaman & Arielle - Of course, these two films cannot be missing from the list because of their fascinating underwater worlds.
