Gulf of Li'minar

The Gulf of Li'minar is a large area of water south of the current location of the Li'minar. Although it was originally of considerable size, the fall of the world tree more than doubled its size by expanding it northwards. In the many years after the fall of the world tree its roots have tried but failed to once again reach the depths of the lagoon. Due to this failure the world tree is instead periodically creating large whirlpools to dredge up nutrition from the ocean floor. These whirlpools are easily large enough to swallow ships whole and create natural disasters for the cities of aquatic species living on the ocean floor. Despite this many have found patterns in the whirlpools and now it is rare for an experienced sailor to ever get into an accident.   Due to the many whirlpools most ships in the gulf are on good relations with aquatic species. For some captains this has almost reached a point of worship where they will give offerings and include them in prayers whenever they travel through the gulf. Although some captains are able to navigate the gulf without guides even the most experiences sailors are more calm when they know they have the help of whatever aquatic species call the waters they are sailing on their home.
While the aquatic species are not quite as spiritual when it comes to the ships sailing their waters, they do make sure to stay on good relations with them as the offerings and trades they bring are of great value. Some aquatic species even have food cultures based around spices not found under the sea due to how often they receive them from ships.
