Viinyiiä Kou

The Viinyiiä Kou, literally meaning "Living Dead" in Määhen, is a strategy of resistance within the Määhe. To be Viinyiiä Kou is to be devoted so entirely to the struggle that you consider yourself already dead, free to act without fear of suffering or being killed. Those who declare themselves Viinyiiä Kou often use a combination of psychoactive drugs and meditative rituals, both mundane and transcendental, to induce a form of ego death. Some also use transcendental arts to remove their ability to feel pain or fear. Many of these people are cultists to Fentylshog, The Dread Hunter.   This concept is drawn from a term from Määhen folklore for warriors that would become so consumed with vengeance that they would become husks of their former selves, fueled only by their quest. These people would become little more than monsters that would kill anyone whose path they crossed, blinded by their hatred into believing they were the target of their rage. In folklore, this is most certainly not a positive concept, but in the context of the trauma experienced by the Määhe, many find strength and solace in the idea of abandoning humanity for the sake of liberation.   Drizhni also uses the term Viinyiiä Kou to collectively refer to the Määhen resistance, propagandizing the term to imply that they are all soulless killers. Drizhni spreads rumors, as well, that the Määhen resistance sacrifices their own to Fentylshog or other deities, turning them into undead warriors.
