First Tehanti Revolution

The First Tehanti Revolution was a revolutionary conflict in Tehant, part of the Wellspring of Nations that swept across Duurn in the 1100s and 1200s CE. It began in 1224 CE, after Gukwi II, the Nywim of Tehant, attempted to restructure the Chamber of the Common People, one of the legislative bodies formed by the constitution of 1217 CE. Tehant was already on the edge of rebellion, and this provided the spark. A crowd of people stormed the royal palace and dragged Gukwi II into his gardens, where he was stoned to death. The Voice of the Common People called a vote to rewrite the constitution to remove the Mgemnyi royal family from power entirely. The vote passed with an astounding majority. The Chamber of the Lords rejected this, but the idea of a new republic swept the nation. Several members of the Chamber of the Lords were grabbed from their homes by republican mobs, given trials in the streets, and executed. Others fled the capital.   A bloody civil war ensued between segments of the army loyal to the Mgemnyi royal family and those loyal to the new republic. The war lasted until 1227, when Khahlanong Hlusa Mfa intervened to form a rump state in southern Tehant under the control of the Mgemnyi, called the Mgemnyi Domain. The revolution is condiered by historians to have continued for three more years of bloody purges and unrest. Within the new republic, three major factions battled for control. The Swamzih were the most radical faction, advocating for complete self-governance by the common people. The Nchai wanted to dissolve the Chamber of the Lords and make the Chamber of the Common People the primary organ of government. Finally, the Mbonti wanted to retain both chambers. This ended around 1230, with the Nchai in power and the finalization of a new constitution.
