Specters
In the Dreamrealms there are two types of beings: the dreamers, a set of beings whose souls and visage come from and controlled by the waking realm and the specters, the monsters, creatures, companions and critters that litter the Dreamrealms in their vast and varied confectionary visages.
Specters live symbiotically towards the dreamers, feasting and feeding on their soul's energies, whilst also providing said people with a way to tackle those feelings and emotions by talking to the monsters themselves.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Specters usually take the visage of a mix between a real or fictional animal, and a confectionary sweet or baked goods. This can be as varied and simple as a unicorn with an ice cream horn, or as complex as the The Great Gummy Wyrm, a leviathan variant of the Gummy Wyrm turned mythological being that haunts the Cotton Coast.
Genetics and Reproduction
Specters cannot reproduce like normal beings in the awake realms can reproduce, more that they simply 'spawn' due to high levels of certain energies in that area. Different specters may appear due to the different emotional states of the dreamers in that area, or specters in certain areas may morph and change into different looks and shapes due to the changing in the emotional energies of the area.
Growth Rate & Stages
A typical specter appears as it will stay, but when a certain emotion is held by many people it may cause a specter to undergo serious changes such as growth in size or hostility. A key example of this is the The Great Gummy Wyrm which historians believe to be once a simple Gummy Sea Snake that fed off the dreamer's anxiety about the ongoing wars in the awake realm and ballooned to a leviathan size.
Ecology and Habitats
Specters exist exclusively in the Dreamrealms with no recorded or reported cases of any beasts of similar ilk being found in the waking realms. They are found nearly everywhere within the dreamrealms with adapted visages to the theming of their environment.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
While the specifics of the sensory capabilities of Specters usually are derived from the visage or type that the specters have, almost all of them have some way to sense soul energy (due to it being important for their nourishment). Sensing soul energy can be performed via a type of sight, smell, sound, or even taste but is usually correlated to an animals visage.
