Zonn Ettyr

Said to be the first Dwarves to arrive on Serotonia, Zonn Ettyr (Sun's Chosen) has dissolved to be nothing more than a passing memory, and a distasteful mark on a Dwarf's family tree. They were a disgraced sect of Pelor, who upon hearing of the newly-rediscovered land of Serotonia, fled their home continent and sailed far east, eventually arriving on the mostly undisturbed open plains of what is now Linrea. There they began a conquest to "protect the dawn" and quickly spread their influence across the western half of the continent. Zonn Ettyr constructed large settlements in open plains, basking in the glory of the sunlight and vowing to destroy any of those who went against it. Their conquest eventually led to their discovery of the Underdark, a vast network of caves and caverns that had gone previously unnoticed on their home continent. Zonn Ettyr's devoted were fanatic to destroy the "sun-shielded heretics" and left many of the less-violent members with a difficult choice-- stay with the devoted and participate in a misguided crusade, or leave the sect and brave the new, unfamiliar world. Discourse sprung amongst the Zonn Ettyr about the decision to attack the Underdark, ending with the mass departure of ~1/4 of it's membership.
These departees went on to outlive and outperform their former sect, establishing settlements of their own and distancing themselves from what had become of Zonn Ettyr. Most notable of these settlements are Amberton and Jagmider, which contain some of the last surviving members of Zonn Ettyr following its downfall and subsequent dissolution.
The remaining majority of Zonn Ettyr went on to fulfill its self-appointed quest, scouting and establishing barricades onto any and all entrances into the Underdark. There they used their light-based technology and brute strength to push back and kill any unfortunate Drow who attempted to use the previously uninterrupted exits to the surface. For a while, this seemed to work, as Drow became increasingly rare on the surface and instead stuck to their home territory-- unable to leave home and becoming evermore prepared for a possible purge of the Underdark by Zonn Ettyr's forces. But Zonn Ettyr's religious victory did not reign forever, and the Drow made their inevitable attack one fateful night. A coordinated swell of Drow began to push their way through Zonn Ettyr's barricades, completely overwhelming the Dwarves stationed there and once again freeing the Underdark. The nights that followed are what most consider to be the end of Zonn Ettyr, as its cities fell to the Drow forces and members scattered across the plains.
Now, more than 200 years later, the once vast and powerful sect has been reduced to a fading memory, with only few remaining members of the group-- and even fewer who dare to make their past involvement public. The once strong and proud settlements have rusted and rotted, serving only as reminders of a distant war. Scavengers and wildlife have long since picked these ruins clean, but rumors of an undisturbed and unlooted Umbrahold still persist. And despite the best efforts of those who seek it, none have discovered the ruins of Zonn Ettyr's largest stronghold.

Keep dusk at bay, so we may all see dawn.
