Wardens of the Everbloom
"To protect, to devote, to sacrifice" -an oath for all eternity to devote oneself to the teachings and goals of Catus, to protect and defend all cats of the spirit realm and the living world, and to sacrifice without hesitation our blood, body and souls for this end.The first Wardens were cat spirit guardians that followed First Seer Asir, and linked with humans to defend cats and humans in both the spirit and the living world during the First Great War of the Realms. After the creation of the Grimmfell, and seeing that the surge of fell creatures did not fully stop, these cats were then summoned by Catus, and tasked with following Asir to create the Wardens of the Everbloom.
Structure
The ranks among the Wardens, from highest to lowest, are as follows. Lord Wardens sit on the Council of Flowers in the Order, and directly report to the Head Seer on issues related to Order issues.
- Lord Warden
- Grand Marshal
- Senschal
- Sergeant
- Cadet
- Trainee
Culture
The Wardens have a rather strict and solemn moral code that is enforced from Trainee days.
First, be forever vigilant against the Grimmfell and all associated with it.While well respected, Wardens in the kingdom are generally not wealthy, mainly at average or even below average in terms of wealth. Basic needs are generally provided for by the Order from the royal treasuries, and housing is usually inherited. A small stipend that functions as a wage, is paid, but usually for emergency cases. Any wealth gained during their existence is donated back to the Order and then distributed to the kingdom treasury upon the Warden's final death. Wardens in general are also forbidden to accept extravagent gifts from grateful citizens, and larger gifts in general must be reported upwards in the Order. Restrictions in the spirit world is further extended when on mission in the living world. While on missions there, Wardens are usually provided a small fund that they can use when living as humans. However, except in unique complicated missions, Wardens are usually required to find means to earn money if they run low or out of funds. Thus, many Wardens who frequently take on missions in the living world among humans learn and gain human knowledge and skills. These skills, as well as goods, they also take back with them to Dominicus Felinus, usually contributing to the growing knowledge base of the human world in the kingdom. Not following the code of conduct, depending on severity, can result in demotion. More extreme violations can result in expulsion; especially in cases involving the death of innocents in the living world, permanent expulsion such as death, can be used on the Warden. Demotion is generally decided upon by the Council of Flowers, while expulsion is usually done by the Head Seer with consultation by the Exarch.
Second, protect all lives of cats and humans, in both the living and the spirit worlds.
Third, never allow oneself traits that allow the Grimmfell a chance to take hold.
Fourth, be fair and humble, do not view oneself as above others, either Keepers or Summoners or creatures of other kind.
Fifth, the oath of the Warden is one of sacrifice for the lives of those blessed by Catus. Never doubt and never hesitate when asked to put down our lives for the kingdom.
History
The first Wardens were cat spirit guardians that followed First Seer Asir, and linked with humans to defend cats and humans in both the spirit and the living world during the First Great War of the Realms. After the creation of the Grimmfell, and seeing that the surge of fell creatures did not fully stop, these cats were then summoned by Catus, and tasked with following Asir to create the Wardens of the Everbloom in 150 Eighth Era.
The separate Academies were created formally in 175 Eighth Era in order to unify the recruitment and training of the Warden Trainees, and the final trials for Trainee Wardens was created with guidance from First Seer Asir in 210 Eighth Era. The number of Wardens steadily increased until it reached its peak during the Second Great War of the Realms between 940 to 953 of the Eighth Era. A significant number of Wardens and Summoners alike gave up their lives during the Second Great War, and overall number of Wardens and Summoners alike declined.
Following the Summoning Seal in the 310s of the Ninth Era, when the Wardens' power to identify and link with human summoners seemed to be closed, the number of Wardens drastically dropped, especially as continuous small-scale incursions of the Grimmfell increased. While an intial Scion from the Prophecies was identified in the 410s of the Ninth Era, the human declined to aid the cats, and so the decline in Wardens continued. Only until recently was a second Scion identified.
