The Grand Library
Purpose / Function
Holds the arcane knowledge and more general knowledges from the past. Some are found in tomes, thousands of years old; a remnant of a civilisation that precedes Batavia. Some are found in USB sticks and Harddrives. Most visitors can visit the library itself, but members of the Guild of Magi and Academias are allowed to access the lower level. There, more archaic archives can be found, nesteld in excavated caverns under the library itself. And for the privileged few, they hold the special key to the Portal Library. There one can find arcane studies as old as the world itself as well as Magics deemed to powerful to be cast
Alterations
In the beginning, the domes was made of limestone and marbles. But after a collapse in the middle of 21st Century, the city council, upon the request of the Guild of Magi, decided to modernise the library, reconstructing the dome out of glass and steel as well as installing IT improvements to the library (computers, wifi, etc).
Architecture
The entrance is similar to that found at the Pantheon, with meters tall marble pillars thicker than old oak trees. The grand door was made of thick oak, with runes stamped on the steel braces that connects the door to the hinges. The building itself is squareish and is made of white marble. How the builders managed to get such absurd quantity of marble is unclear. But what is clear is that, these marbles are designed to withstand the blasts of bombs and other explosives. Additionaly, to anyone adept with using magic, they can feel an enchantment that's been cast on the walls of the library. An enchantment that allows the library to resist magical attacks made against it. Afterall, the Grand Library was meant to guard and store knowledge, some might deem world changing. On top of the white marble is a glass dome; each glass panel being held in place by the gold plated skeleton of the dome.
History
The Grand Library has been a part of Batavia ever since it's founding on the 18th Century. The construction to 50 years and when it was finished, it is the biggest, and argueably the most majestic building in Batavia; rivalling that of the old Cathedral.
Tourism
Mostly visited by scholars and Academia. But general public are always welcomed.
