Thrives and Decay
Background:
Earth, the year 2100.
The world has changed much since the beginning of the 21st Century:
-ecological fallout transforms many areas of the world into inhabitable desserts, flooded coastal cities, eternal wildfire, etc
-The battle for resources in the middle of the 21st Century (Great Draught war)
-The consolidation of life and society into tightly packed cities, each containing millions of lives of those who are rich , lucky , ambitious or brutal
-Technology has advanced massively with AI even gaining sentient, although such occurrence are quite rare
-However, technology is not prevalent and is unequally distributed across the inhabitants of the city and the surrounding
What differs from the world that we players know is that, alongside the prevalence of bleeding edge technology, magic and religions also exist, albeit muted in the shadows. Magic users in this world are perceived to be old timers and gatekeepers; stubbornly preserving knowledge and traditions that has fallen out of favours with time. Religions has fallen into decline, as many people turned away from the complexity and antiquity of its traditions in favour of the convenience of Technology. Yes, though these two disciples are not dead, they are eclipsed by technology.
Human is also not the only race to inhabit the earth. Elves, dwarfs, gnomes, have adapted to live in the urban jungle while dragons, Minotaur and monster of unspeakable horror and untold savagery roams the now abandoned landscape outside of the cities.
Our story start with a city near the coast called Batavia...
Theme: Defending the neutrality of the three "factions" (magic, religion and technology coexistent leads to success, division to ruination; in a egocentric society, does sympathy still exists ?; connected yet isolated
What each faction wants:
-from magic: to preserve their knowledge and rediscover forgotten magics (past)
-from religion: worship and admiration of the god (american god style) (present)
-from technology: to push the boundary of what was thought possible, to discover and implement new knowledge (future)
The BBEG
Petrus Anderson wanted to control all three factions and they do so by sowing mistrust and disunion between them, weakening them. He wants to exert control over the factions because he needs the three unique piece each factions posses. They are:
-the eternity stone. Grant immortality (the ability to rejuvinate the body and soul) Kept safe in the purgatory by the "church". The keys to unlocking the "safe" is located in the deepest part of hell, Tartarus, and in heaven. (religion)
-the all seeing amulet. Allow the wearer to see the past and possible futures. Kept in the Grand Library of the Great Magi. (magic)
-the unstopable force. A device that allow those who activates it to break the second law of thermodynamic (energy can be extracted from a system of lower energy content) effectively creating energy out of nothing. This device also allows the lossless transformation of energy to any form instantaneously. Kept at the secret safe of the biggest technology conglomerate of Batavia (need name), owned by the Three Family. (technology)
Combined together, they allow a person to become God. Petrus Anderson aims to become God and reverse the Earth to it's condition to pre 22nd Century, where nature is still lush and the strife of the 21st Century have not wrought misery on Earth.
