Para-Elemental Plane of Magma

The Para-elemental Plane of Magma is a seething domain of molten stone and raw elemental fury, where the unyielding solidity of Earth collides with the unrelenting energy of Fire. The result is a violent, churning landscape of volcanic upheaval—a plane in constant flux, where rock melts, reforms, and erupts in an eternal cycle of destruction and creation.

The Para-elemental Plane of Magma represents the chaotic crucible of creation. It is neither entirely fire nor stone, but the volatile point where the two clash and intermingle. To survive here is to endure a realm of molten transformation, where nothing is permanent, and all things—rock, flame, or flesh—are eventually consumed and remade in the fires of elemental fury.

Geography

The terrain of the Magma Plane is a vast range of volcanic mountains, each spewing rivers of roiling lava, toxic smoke, and pyroclastic fury. The ground pulses with heat and tremors, and lava tubes snake through obsidian cliffs and basalt plains. Some regions are vast seas of magma, with islands of semi-solid rock adrift on currents of molten stone.

Above, the sky is thick with sulfurous smoke and glowing ash, casting everything in an infernal, red-orange glow. Great clouds of superheated steam rise from where magma meets pockets of subterranean water, creating regions of scalding fog. Thunderous explosions and lava fountains light up the darkness, providing momentary glimpses of the alien terrain.

Localized Phenomena

The primary threat is the environment itself. Even approaching the plane without magical protection invites incineration—the heat is intense enough to melt metal, and the air itself can combust. Eruptions are sudden and frequent, often reshaping entire regions in moments. Rivers of lava flow unpredictably, and ash storms can bury or suffocate creatures in minutes.

There are also regions where molten earth hardens unnaturally fast, trapping the unwary, or where the crust is deceptively thin, concealing lava chambers just beneath the surface. The plane is highly unstable, prone to quakes, bursts of volcanic gas, and other violent upheavals.

Fauna & Flora

Creatures native to this realm are either born of fire and stone, or have adapted to live in the searing heat. Magma elementals, fire-infused earth creatures, azeri forgemasters, and lava serpents slither through the molten tides. Fire giants, efreet, and hell hounds may stake claims to obsidian citadels perched on volcanic peaks, while more alien elemental beings—living geysers or sentient magma flows—roam the depths.
