WorldEmber 2025

Pledge

Reflections

After last year's great WorldEmber and this year's highly successful SummerCamp, I admit to feeling a little pressure for this WorldEmber. Hence this year I'd like to keep my focus on doing this for fun, especially since I'm quite tired from attending a dancing residency in November (which was amazing, but exhausting). I'll be happy to continue building Dlynaeth though and breathing life into it and I hope to start looking beyond the bounds of the western side of the continent.

Bingo

First of all, I love that WorldAnvil switched up the homework a bit and the bingo format seems fun! It's entirely possible that I've completed some other items from the bingo (playlists are a crucial writing tool for me, for example) but I decided to focus on one specific row.

I'm considering writing about the country of Yinnuth, now that Lolussa has a (short) article, as well as the empire who covers a great deal of ground at the great eastern bay. Maybe also the city of Saeyal, but that sort of depends on what I find in the list of articles I want to write.
Usually the easiest assignment for me. For one thing, I've already finished a fantasy book this month (Maps, Magic and Mischief ), it had a solid middle and was a good example of how cozy fantasy can still have stakes. If I have time left before WE starts, I want to read The Honor Code: How Moral Revolutions Happen.
The most important item on the bingo for me. I'm not a fast worldbuilder and it takes me a long time to come up with an idea and develop it enough to turn it into an article. Having a list of reasonably fleshed-out ideas ready to go is crucial to not get stuck during WorldEmber. Stubs to be expanded have been included in this list since I love to make stubs.
This one is a bit of a freebie since I'm already in the discord, generally in the challenge channel. But it's been a few months since I've been really active there and since the community in there is one of my greatest sources of motivations I felt this item was worthy of inclusion. So my assignment here is less "join" and more "become active again".

List of Possibilities

  • Yinnuth — what does the country that is so greatly supported by the magical trade from Lake Annur look like?
  • Lake Annur
  • Poervudh Empire — how did it form, what are some of the territories it absorbed? Why did they build the The Watchtowers?
  • The great river that flows from the eastern side of the Kynfesan Mountains down to the great bay
  • The small birdfolk — originally from the southern mountains, highly magical and occupying a special place in the social structures of Poervudh
  • The large birdfolk — without the power of flight but widespread across the continent.
  • A small band of immortals — residents from one of my other worlds are insisting they cross over and get their own counterparts here. I have some ideas.
