Slazgar

The Goblin Called Two-Eyes: A Biography of Slazgar

In the grimy underbelly of Grizburg, where ambition and treachery flow as freely as cheap ale, Slazgar began his journey as just another clever goblin thief. Known initially as Slazgar the Quick for his deft hands and swift escapes, he distinguished himself early through an uncommon intelligence and strategic mind that set him apart from his more brutish kin.
Slazgar and Sythara
Born into one of Grizburg's countless goblin clans, Slazgar learned early that survival depended on more than just strength. While other young goblins focused on building muscle and practicing with crude weapons, he studied the art of negotiation, the value of information, and the subtle ways of wielding influence without force. His entry into arms dealing came naturally, beginning with simple trades and gradually expanding into more sophisticated transactions that would eventually lead him to the darkest corners of mystical power.   What truly set him apart was his unusual fascination with magical artifacts. Unlike most goblins, who viewed magic with superstitious fear or simple greed, Slazgar displayed a genuine intellectual curiosity about enchanted items. He spent countless hours studying the weapons he traded, learning to recognize subtle differences in magical signatures and effects that would prove invaluable in the ordeals to come.

The Transformation

His reputation in Grizburg grew steadily, built on a foundation of reliable deals and clever negotiations. While never the most powerful figure in the city's underworld, he became known as someone who could consistently deliver quality weapons without the complications that often came with dealing with the larger criminal organizations. Yet beneath this success lay an hunger for something greater than mere profit.   The stories of Sythara's domain in the Kalnith Jungle reached him through various sources, each tale more intriguing than the last. The witch's collection of magical artifacts and forbidden knowledge represented everything he had come to desire - power, knowledge, and the means to elevate himself above the common throng of Grizburg's underworld.   His attempt to infiltrate her territory revealed both his greatest strengths and limitations. His careful planning and natural stealth allowed him to bypass several layers of magical defenses that had claimed many other intruders. Yet in the end, Sythara's power proved too great, and he found himself caught in her enchanted snares.
"Pain is the chisel that carves greatness from weakness. Through suffering, the worthy are separated from the chaff."
Sythara, spoken during Slazgar's captivity
The ordeal that followed would have broken most mortals, but Slazgar's response to Sythara's torments revealed an unexpected depth to his character. While her other prisoners typically shattered under her cruelties, Slazgar displayed an almost supernatural resilience. Each torment seemed to forge him into something stronger, his will becoming as tempered as the weapons he once traded.   The loss of his eye, perhaps the most pivotal moment in his transformation, demonstrated this resilience most clearly. When Sythara carved out his right eye as punishment, his response was not to break but to adapt. His acceptance of the mechanical replacement eye she crafted - her "gift of perpetual vigilance" - marked the beginning of his transformation from captive to devoted servant.

The Eye of Revelation

This mechanical eye proved to be more than just a replacement for what was lost. The magical properties Sythara imbued it with allowed Slazgar to perceive magical energies and see through illusions, but more importantly, it granted him the ability to identify hidden loyalties, secret fears, and unspoken desires in those around him. This supernatural insight would later prove crucial in his role as her agent and in his eventual manipulation of Grizburg's complex political networks.   During his captivity, Slazgar's natural intelligence found new expression in the study of dark magic. Under Sythara's tutelage, he demonstrated an unexpected aptitude for magical arts, particularly in the crafting of cursed weapons and the brewing of toxic potions. More significantly, he began to understand the deeper mysteries of soul manipulation and the binding of life essence into inanimate objects - knowledge that would prove essential to his future enterprises.   His transformation from prisoner to devoted servant was gradual but absolute. What began as forced obedience evolved into willing submission, then into a deeper form of loyalty that transcended normal master-servant relationships. In Sythara's cruelty and power, Slazgar found something he had unconsciously sought throughout his life - a purpose greater than mere survival or profit.

Return to Power

When Sythara finally freed him to return to Grizburg, Slazgar was no longer the simple arms dealer who had first entered her domain. His return to the city marked the beginning of a new phase in his evolution, as he applied both his enhanced abilities and dark knowledge to building a power base that would serve their shared ambitions while pursuing his own mysterious agenda.   His operations in Grizburg took on new sophistication. The weapons he now dealt in carried curses and enchantments of his own making, crafted using the techniques Sythara had taught him. His mechanical eye proved invaluable in these dealings, allowing him to see through deceptions and identify valuable magical artifacts while reading the true intentions of potential allies and enemies.   Most significantly, during this period Slazgar secured the allegiance of Kurgan Weinrich, the enigmatic proprietor of The Jungle's Claw Tavern in the neighboring Kanonos Region. Kurgan, with his vast network of spies and informants stretching from the underworld to royal courts, recognized in Slazgar a power player worth backing.
"Information flows through The Jungle's Claw like blood through veins. Those who would drink at the source must pay in more than gold."
Through Kurgan's connections to the Sinister Six, a league of elite mercenaries who frequented his tavern, Slazgar gained access to a skilled force that could operate throughout both regions. The Jungle's Claw became a crucial nexus point in Slazgar's growing network, its haunting melodies from the Harmonicon of Eternal Dissonance often providing cover for meetings that would reshape the balance of power in the region.

Lord of Dreadmil

Three years ago, Slazgar achieved what many considered his greatest coup - the acquisition of the massive industrial complex known as Dreadmil in Rustwater District. To outside observers, this appeared to be merely another successful business venture by a rising arms dealer. The reality proved far more sinister and sophisticated than even his enemies suspected.   The acquisition of Dreadmil represented the culmination of years of patient planning and careful manipulation. Using intelligence gathered through Kurgan's network and insights provided by his mechanical eye, Slazgar had identified the facility's true value - not merely as a weapons manufacturing center, but as a site positioned directly above one of the eight access points to the Whispering Depths.
"Dreadmil rises like a monument to mortal ambition, but its true foundation rests upon the bones of gods. Those who control such places shape the fate of worlds."
— Anonymous observer from the Eyes of Tezra
From this fortress-factory of blackened iron and cruel spikes, Slazgar now oversees operations that blend conventional weapons manufacturing with the darkest arts of soul manipulation. The facility serves dual purposes, maintaining the appearance of legitimate industry while conducting experiments that push the boundaries between technology and necromancy. Workers process not only raw materials but captured life essence, binding souls into weapons that possess capabilities far beyond normal craftsmanship.   The Soulforged Sentinels that guard Dreadmil's perimeter represent the pinnacle of this unholy technology - massive constructs containing dozens of souls fused into warriors of terrible strength. These creations serve both as protection and advertisement of Slazgar's capabilities, their presence ensuring that even Grizburg's most powerful factions treat him with cautious respect.

The Soul Forge

Deep within Dreadmil lies Slazgar's greatest achievement - the Soul Forge, where the techniques learned from Sythara have been refined and expanded into an industrial process. Here, captured souls undergo extraction and refinement, their essence bound into weapons that carry subtle mystical influences. Users of these enhanced arms find their thoughts gradually aligned with purposes they do not consciously understand, creating a network of unconscious agents throughout the region whose actions serve Slazgar's distant ambitions.   The secret passage he has constructed between Dreadmil and the Whispering Depths represents perhaps his most audacious achievement. This hidden access point enables him to harvest Dead God artifacts and conduct experiments that would be impossible through conventional means, while the ritual chamber that serves as the passage's terminus incorporates architectural elements salvaged from ancient burial sites that retain mystical resonances essential to the passage's operation.

The Hunt for the Obsidian Fang

His quest for the Obsidian Fang demonstrated both his tactical brilliance and the depth of his devotion to Sythara. Navigating the political landscape of Grizburg's underworld, he carefully manipulated various factions and gathered the resources needed to access the Whispering Depths through official channels while maintaining his secret access through Dreadmil.   The expedition into the catacombs beneath Grizburg revealed Slazgar at his most capable. His leadership of the dangerous mission showed both his strategic mind and his willingness to sacrifice others to achieve his goals. The betrayals he faced and dealt with demonstrated how thoroughly he had absorbed Sythara's lessons about power and cruelty.   When he finally claimed the Obsidian Fang, Slazgar faced the full force of its dark divinity - the essence of Zothra-Khaar himself. Yet even in this supreme test, his loyalty to Sythara proved stronger than the Dead God's influence. His ability to resist the Fang's corrupting power spoke to both his strength of will and the depth of his bond with the witch.

Networks of Influence

From his position as lord of Dreadmil, Slazgar has woven a web of influence that extends throughout Rustwater and into every major district of Grizburg. His weapons and tools have found their way into the hands of key figures throughout the city's power structure, each item carrying subtle influences that gradually align their users' thoughts with purposes that serve distant ambitions.   The information that flows through his network provides advance warning of political developments while creating opportunities to influence events through carefully placed words, precisely timed weapon deliveries, and favors granted to exactly the right mortals. These small actions combine to create currents of influence that shape major political decisions without any participants understanding how their choices are being guided.
"In the depths where metal screams and souls burn cold, the future of the world takes shape upon the anvil of necessity. What emerges shall bear the mark of its forging for all the ages yet to come."
His relationship with the various Rust Baron families has evolved beyond simple business arrangements into a complex web of mutual dependence and carefully managed obligations. Each family relies on resources that Slazgar controls, while he benefits from their continued prosperity and expansion. This symbiotic relationship ensures that any threat to his operations faces resistance from multiple powerful factions, creating a protective network that makes him nearly untouchable through conventional means.

The Price of Ascension

The return to Sythara marked his final transformation from independent agent to full partner in her dark ambitions. Their combined use of the Obsidian Fang's power, culminating in the conquest of Nepos, demonstrated how completely their fates had become intertwined.   In the new order they established in Nepos, Slazgar found his ultimate destiny. No longer simply a servant or agent, he became Sythara's equal in their dark domain - a transformed being who had found his true purpose in the service of power and vengeance, while maintaining his industrial empire in Grizburg as both resource and reminder of his origins.   Yet even in his ascension, Slazgar maintains Dreadmil as more than mere business enterprise. The facility continues to serve as a crucial link between the mundane world of industrial politics and the mystical forces that shape the fate of nations. Through his soul-processing operations, he creates tools and weapons that carry his influence far beyond the borders of any single realm, while his access to the Whispering Depths provides opportunities for harvesting artifacts and knowledge that enhance his growing power.

Legacy of Shadows

Slazgar's journey from clever goblin thief to dark sorcerer and co-ruler of Nepos represents a unique path to power - one forged through willing submission to a greater darkness and an unwavering loyalty to the one who had both broken and remade him. His acquisition of Dreadmil and mastery of soul-forging techniques demonstrate how mortal ambition can transcend traditional limitations when guided by supernatural vision and ruthless determination.   His legacy in Grizburg remains strong, with tales of his transformation serving as both warning and inspiration to those who seek power through any means necessary. The weapons that emerge from Dreadmil's forges carry his influence into every corner of the known world, while his network of unconscious agents continues to shape events according to plans whose ultimate purpose remains known only to him and his dark patron.
"Power flows not from domination, but from the wisdom to serve something greater than oneself - even if that greatness dwells in shadow. The goblin called Two-Eyes understood this truth, and in understanding, became something more than mortal."
— Final inscription found in Dreadmil's deepest chambers
In the end, Slazgar's story proves that true power can come not just from conquest, but from choosing to serve something greater than oneself, even if that greater power dwells in darkness. Through his mastery of Dreadmil and his partnership with Sythara, he has become a bridge between the industrial might of Grizburg and the mystical forces that shape the destiny of worlds - a transformation that continues to echo through the poisoned corridors of power long after his ascension to darker realms.
