Lorena "Low" Hawthorne is a weathered woman with sun-touched skin and long, dark hair often tied back in a tight braid. She’s lean, with sharp, angular features, and her piercing green eyes give her an intense, calculating look. Lorena is usually clad in a dark, heavy coat worn over chainmail, lending her an imposing presence. She moves with a steady, confident grace, the kind born from a life on the edge of danger.

Personality

Lorena is stern and pragmatic, preferring action over words. She has little patience for nonsense or weakness, and her sense of humor is dark and cutting. While she comes off as cold and detached, it’s because she trusts no one outside of her family. Beneath the surface, there’s a storm of obsession driving her, with bitterness from her family’s longstanding feud coloring her view of justice. Despite this, she follows the law—at least in appearance—though she is willing to bend or break it to further her own goals.

Backstory

Born into a hard, unforgiving land near the border of The Reach and The Astorian Republic, Lorena Hawthorne grew up in the shadow of a bitter family feud with the Carrigans. The dispute, centered on valuable land rights, has lasted for generations. Violence, treachery, and bloodshed have haunted the feud, culminating in the recent death of Lorena’s father, whom she believes was killed by the Carrigans in a staged accident.   Now, Lorena has come to Sable’s Refuge under the guise of hunting down a wanted criminal. In reality, this fugitive is Jonas Carrigan, a member of the family her own has fought for years. Though the official charges against Jonas involve theft and murder, Lorena’s true motivation is a hotly debated topic.

• Despite her hardened exterior, Lorena privately clings to old folk superstitions, such as carrying small charms or muttering quiet prayers to ward off spirits.
