Fecundheart

Natural structures from Darkwood of rock and soil are infused with Radiant Energy by an Energy Font. They are batteries of Radiant Energy that infuse surrounding living things with rampant growth and fertility. It is possible to direct the Radiant Energy to cultivate plant and animal growth. Because of their ties to Darkwood, there are Houseless Elves that revere them as a possible pathway back to Darkwood and The Well for reincarnation.

More than a few have been smuggled off of Darkwood by various groups for various purposes. On Val'a the Sun Elves use them to enhance their cultivation. Various Houseless Elves have smuggled out Fecundhearts and created settlements and cultures around venerating the Fecundheart. A notable one is on Invarlonna where it fuels the massive miles wide tree that overwhelms the island.

Physical Description

Each Fecundheart is a tightly packed and polished mass of soil at least ten feet in diameter. They are large, unwieldy, and heavy. Once they are removed from Darkwood they are fixed in place and Primalshapers use them to cultivate the surrounding lands.

Creation

Fecundhearts are a side effect of the Curse of Life on Darkwood. When Radiant energies infuse a Primal Font the combination of forces calcify creating the core of a fecundheart in the way a clam creates a pearl. Eventually the Fecundheart will grow and overwhelm the Font, sealing it until it is removed.

Powers

Fecundhearts allow Primalshapers a massive repository of Radiant Energy that can be safely channeled to cultivate and encourage life. They can channel this power through rituals without tapping their own wellspring of power. However this power is limited to Radiant Energy, limiting the spells that can be fueled by the Fecundheart. Typically those that heal, manipulate biologies, or enhance growth.

Cultural Significance

Because of their association with Darkwood, their ability to transform and prolong life, and how they were used in creating The Well Elves hold them in reverence. They are valued for the power they allow a Primalshaper channel but the notoriously conservative Elven Council tightly controls access to the Fecundhearts. That hasn't stopped smuggling them ot Val'a. It is an open secret that the mightiest Havens have a Fecundheart secreted at their heart.

A handful of Fecundhearts have been smuggled out by Houseless Elves. They become the heart of their communities and become objects of extreme — nearly religious — reverence. Because of their tie to Darkwood many Houseless Elves consider them to be a pathway for souls to return to The Well. Newsoul Elves often see them as a refuge for souls to return to upon death. Either way it puts them at the center of their cultures.

Fecundheart

Wonderous Item, Legendary

The Fecundheart is an polished orb ten to fifteen feet in diameter weighing a ton. Touching the orb heals the creature 1d8 HP once until the following dawn. The Fecundheart has 24 charges that are recovered at dawn. Charges can be spend by a spellcaster to cast spells they know or have access to without expending spell slots with one slot per level of the spell cast. These spells must be of the Transmutation school or restore hitpoints of a target. The caster can only cast a spell as an eight level or lower casting, regardless of their level.
