Dragon Tyrants
Sorcerer generals who survived the filled the vacuum of power left by the Old Gods and Dragons. They were the most powerful of those left behind. Initially they were hailed as saviors of the people, protecting them from the destructive aftermath of the Godswar. They built stronghold cities that sheltered the mortals from the ravages of the Godswar that would later become known as Dragon Tyrannies. The sorcerer generals became known as the Dragon Tyrants as their beneficence turned into oppression as they sought out the Dragons of the First Clutch and raised them to be symbols of their power.
With their mastery of Arcane Magic they were able to extend their lives, call down ruin, or open gates through the Astral Sea protected from the Maelstrom. They were epic level spellcasters in a world with no other arcane or divine magic.
But ageless doesn't mean unkillable. And omnipotent does not mean omniscient. Scion powerplays drew the eyes of the Tyrants from their subjects and they missed the rise of the Spirits and their Pactmages' new powers.
Scions
The scions were the lesser children of the Dragon Tyrants. They had sorcery in their blood but not having been born in the time of the Godswar they did not have the accumulated power of their parents. And with their parent's magically enhanced lifespans they would not inherit their Kingdoms. So they turned on each other in complex webs of intrigue and betrayal. Some attempted to assist in the Grand Rebellion to replace their parents. None but the most isolated were able to achieve that, maintaining a diminished hereditary rulership of a fallen Tyranny known as Dragonblooded Thrones.Dragons of the First Clutch
When the Dragons left with the remaining Gods, they left behind something that would continue their legacy on the Dancing Spheres, their eggs. Sought out by the Dragon Tyrants they bent the Dragons of the First Clutch to their will. Soon their Dragons mounts became the symbols of their power.
The Grand Rebellion
Pactmages emerged as the nascent Spirits made pacts with the disenfranchised, granting them new powers. Resistance movements coalesced around these new spellcasters were able to collaborate across the Tyrannies. Once the revolts had begun the Dragon Tyrants were soon overthrown or killed. Only a handful of Scions avoided total overthrow and took their progenitor's place as leader of their Tyrannies, but none of these are within the bounds of Civilization.
From then on Sorcerers, Dragons, and those of draconic blood found themselves pariahs in the societies that followed. The prejudice eventually spread to all with inborn magics culminating in the Blood Bounty of the Pathkeepers.
