At some point before her journey to Creation, Sitra had her neck and brain stolen by another demon. From then on she had to carry her head in her hands, and was extremely thirsty for knowledge to replace what she had lost.
This is the history of Deja and the people who founded it.
At some point before her journey to Creation, Sitra had her neck and brain stolen by another demon. From then on she had to carry her head in her hands, and was extremely thirsty for knowledge to replace what she had lost.
Deja was a city state, empire, and megalopolis founded by the demon Sitra and her cadre in -784 AC. Originally a colonial project, or refugee camp, by denizens of a now forgotten infernal empire, the city became independent in -777 AC and quickly became a center of magical research and regional power in western Adellon thanks to the infernal blessings of The Sitrian Council, the name for Deja's ruling body composed of Sitra and her 776 children.
The Dejan Golden Age, also known as the Sitrian Blossoming, was said to have started in -666 when Sitra died and her soul was encased, by The Sitrian Council, in a sapphire and used to empower the infernal magics of Dejan scholarship.
The Little Blossom was a period of time where Tavti scholars and artisans made major contributions to Adellonian culture and importantly made significant impacts on the thinking of Sitrian Council of Deja.
In -486 Dejan soldiers took Tavti Strategos Komen The Unbreakable to the summit of Tavt Mountain and broke his spine on the peak of it, marking the end of the last war Deja would ever fight. From that point forward their control over Adellon, while never absolute, was indisputable. Any institution large enough to be of any concern was either a tributary of Deja or a part of Deja itself. The tributaries would war with each other but at no point did any challenge to Dejan authority reach outright armed rebellion.
This period of time has a mixed legacy in the memories of living Adellon. There is clear evidence of exploitation under Dejan rule, but Adellon's extensive aqueduct networks are are more immediate argument for many.
Through stunningly effective statecraft, Deja managed to become the cosmopolitan capital of world... although many jealous kings and empresses continued to claim otherwise.
Near the end of year 2 AC, The Sitrian Council declared that Deja would officially pursue the implications and uses of the schools of Skepticism developing in Tavts and the Gisha River and Delta.
Convulsion Day is the name for the date when "reality twitched and convulsed" for several hours, causing the dead to rise from the graves and the city of Deja, along with hundreds of surrounding miles, to become devoid of life entirely. While it wasn't recognized until a few days later, it is surmised that Convulsion Day is also the day the moon broke.
The Adellonian Mysterectomy is the name for the relatively successful and frequently bloody struggle to end magic use in Adellon, once it was discovered that use of magic accelerates the Dejan blight. While there are undeniably many magic users in the world today, the transition from a society that used magic to accomplish practically all tasks to one where magic is effectively taboo, and fewer and fewer people are born with any apparent potentiality to learn magic, is arguably the greatest victory Adellonian people have achieved since the era's beginning.
