Crossway City

Crossway city has a drastically diverse ecosytem of people. There is a saying that not even the families share blood, owing to the extreme diverity of First and Second-spawn races within crossway. Every creature from the humble human to the exotic Strix can be found within its walls.

Crossway City is divided into Five Sections or Bouroughs each maintained by a Council Member that is chosen by their merit. Usually Current Council members choose a successor once every 5 years but are told to have one written down upon inaguration in the case of accident or similar succesional crisis.

Crossway City has large stone walls that surround the entierty of the city. Those walls are manned by watchmen and guardsmen and have been fitted for anti-seige capability however this project remains unfinished. Internally, the warrens district is walled off fromthe commerce district, both to prevent disonants from simply strolling into the market district and to safeguar*

Crossway is run by the merchants. The oils of trade grease the very gears that keeps this city turning. For this reason, crossway serves as a massive depot for trade and attracts many a budding entrepreneur to its steps. However, all trade is taxed and maintained by the Crossway 5, allowing for many amenities such as aqueducts, plumbing, a full sewer system, and even a gas-lantern network.

Shortly after its creation, Crossway became a hub for southern travelers and pioneers coming from the uncontacted southern regions of the continant. During this period of massive growth of wealth and industry the original Counsil was contacted by several Emissaries from The Gray Order. The Gray Order saught to enter Crossway into the fold of protectorate cities and to clairify elements of the Gray Oath but was denied each time. One Emissary was even arrested and Jailed for several months before being mock executed and exiled from Crossway. This created great tension between Crossway and neighboring city-states as well as the villages that existed within the crossway Sphere of Influence who often relied on Gray Order protected trade. It wasn't until the bandit uprising of 306, which nearly razed the city to the ground, that caused Crossway to enter the Gray Order as a pretectorate, after the Order saved the city with renforcements from Morrow City and Spirefell itself.
