The Eashillian Civil War
"I fear for our brothers and sisters. We insist upon watering the soil with our blood and harvesting crops with torches, but for what? The privileges of the South and a crown that has never cared about us? Our mothers and fathers have died for that cause, our brothers and sisters are dying for that cause, must our sons and daughters die as well? The Great War has ended, so why must smoke still rise above once fair Eashillia?" Our Plight, by Coruin Ranet
The Conflict
Prelude
While not precisely friendly, the imperial Houses of Lasling and Fornost that rule over the Empires of Eashillia and Néresia respectively have been cordial and have maintained a peaceful coexistence between their realms through marriage alliances. That arrangement became an issue when, following a string of assassinations targeting the House of Lasling, Emperor Aevar Lasling was left without an heir and a son of the House of Fornost having a claim to the Eashillian throne. Many of the lords of Southern Eashillia did not wish to have the privileges granted to them by the Lasling emperors stripped away by a Fornost emperor who does not believe in unearned privileges. In an attempt to prevent this from happening, they appealed to the High King of Ilythiir in the hope that the rival of Néresia would help to counterbalance the foreign influence in Eashillia. While this counterbalancing affect may have been achieved, it tore the empire in two and started the Great War. After the Great War began, Emperor Aevar pledged his forces to Néresia and the southern lords rose up in revolt and fought for Ilythiir. The clans of Reyve remained loyal to Aevar and his house, but they refused to fight in the newly begun civil war as that had not been the agreement between Laslen, founder of the dynasty, and the clans.
