Newbrook

At the base of the Wringing Hills, an old waterhole sits guarded by palisade walls. Newbrook has served as a waypoint just off the Long Road a respite for those weary souls crossing the sands to the north. Its namesake creek is the only area of fresh water within 50 miles of the Low Road. Formed from glacial runoff and snowmelt, The eponymous New Brook provided a crisp, cool creek perfect for watermills and hot summer days. As such, Newbrook once saw an influx of caravans and wayfarers stopping to refill their waterskins.   Years ago, a mighty cloud giant named Jenilak dammed the runoff from atop the hills shunting the life-giving water to the town below. Newbrook sent many champions to combat him, but all failed. Jenilak, with his great fortune, bought off marauders who sieged the town. In exchange for offerings of wealth and adventurers, the cloud giant would carve ice blocks from around his glacial palace to quench the now dried up town.   The Shields were unknowingly offered to the giant but were able to dispatch him and free Newbrook from the entrenched marauders. Newbrook has since formed an alliance with Sentynel in hopes of standing against the oncoming storm. This alliance only lasted a few weeks when Aesyn tasked with garrisoning troops within the town found it razed (presumably by demons from the Scorch.) The few survivors he could gather rode south to rejoin the Shields defending Shiftgate.
